Fellow trad archers. I am just curious as to what brace height and silencer set-up you are using on your Centaurs.
I am shooting a 58" Dark Matter TD, 55# @ 28", and am still not quite satisfied with quietness.
I appreciate your responses.

I found my 58" Carbon Chimera to be extremely quiet-almost spooky using wool puffs on the quarters. Your arrows may well be too light.
58"er should run about a 6 3/4 brace Jim's wool silencers, hush puppies, cat whiskers all work well on the quarters and a SBD ultra string = silence :thumbsup:
I shoot a 56" bamboo core Centaur. The string is made of fast flight, the brace height is 7 1/8", the string silencers are beaver fur and my arrow weight is 650 grains.
Being the shooter I hear a lot more bow noise at the shot then those that are standing a few feet from me. I have been told several times that my Centaur is a very quiet bow but never really thought to much about it. This year I had the opportunity of being the viewer while the bow was being shot rather than the shooter. Standing about 10' away from the shooter I found the bow is indeed a very quiet shooting bow.
I shoot a 56"-52@26 Chimera ,brace height 7" . With SBD sting and silencers . Fir shafts 640 grains . Even with hearing aids turned up it is fairly quiet. I just received a XLT triple carbon in the mail yesterday but haven't had the opportunity shoot it yet . It has the sting on it from Jim and Najvaho slinencers,will find out later today. Maxx
I'm running a 58" Carbon Elite. BH is just under 7" and I have 2 sets of cat whiskers on it. They are cut very small, each ball is prolly just 1" in diameter. Mine wears the factory string still and I was going to change it but I honestly see no need at this time.
String material, strand count, and type of silencers used, are much better ways to adjust the tone of the string. too much brace height is not the answer IMO. i guarantee you are not getting string slap with one of Jim's bows. he's got his preload dialed in nicely.
Try the 450+ string material some time, and use cat whiskers on it. a world of difference in tone.
I prefer regular rubber cat whiskers on mine. Very quiet!
Bjorn hit on a biggy. Check your arrow weight. My 60"er and my 62"er both are at a B.H. of 7 1/4. I shoot a heavier than normal arrow out of both of them. My 62" is 47@28 and I shoot a .580 grain arrow out of it. My 60" is 51@28 and it uses the same arrow. Jims Centaurs will love you for using a stiffer,heavier arrow than you might expect. I could shoot a flagpole out of mine. rat'
I have 2 a 60" Chimera 50#@28 and BH set at 7 11/16, and a 60" 48#@28 Triple Carbon BH set at 7 5/8, total arrow weight is 505 grains for both. I'm like you, that to me the shooter it tends to be a louder twang sound then I like, but as Gatekeeper stated to others it's not that loud. Are you a split or 3 under guy? I shoot 3under and its quite a bit difference between the styles.
mines 60" and I shot it when I first got it and it seemed loud to me as well. it has puffs on the string. I always shoot at least 9 gpp and usually over 10. I raised the bh up about 6 twists and actually switched from a tab to a glove and that made all the difference in the world.

I should have added that to my post. Bjorn did hit on a good point here. With here heavier shafts the "Bow" becomes more efficient and transfers more of it's stored energy into the shaft and quiets things down a lot.
Own both 58" & 62" Dark Matter Triple Carbon Elites.
Silencers set at the quarter points of an 8 strand Ultra-cam string. Have shot gpp down to 9.0 . Did notice a noise level increase at 9.0 gpp.
Have incurred positive results on the 58"r utilizing brace hts from 6 3/4 to 7 1/4"s to compensate for different set-ups. Basically like the feel and tuning at around 7 1/8"s for my current set-up.
6 7/8" on my 58"er with Jims supplied string and navaho string silencers. 45lbs at 27" 550grain arrow, whisper quiet. Does yours have the xtl laminate? I've found that the carbon elite with the xtl is way quieter than without
Yes, XLT limb on mine. I ordered a SBD string - used measurement from original, but sting will only allow a brace height of 7 1/2" minimum. Need to discuss with Mr. Lucas at SBD.

Helpful thread for me, I was thinking about posting the same question. If it's acceptable... can I borrow the thread to ask what spine ( for woodies ) you guys are shooting, relative to your poundage? I'm hearing several of 'ya saying your Centaurs like a stiffer arrow; wondering how high you go.

I have some 50/55's here that are for my wifes bow and are cut to 28" for her draw length. I knew they would be too short for my bow to even mount broadheads for me to use but I shot them just to see how they would fly. They are too weak at 28" and with 125gr field points for my 50@28" and I draw right at 28".
My bows both a 58" elite with XTL and 56" Chimera 60@26 are shooting my 65-70 poplars perfect. They also shoot a CX heritage 250 with 260gr up front perfect too. They don't seem to be picky on arrows.
