Title: 150gr glue-on field points?
Post by: Rusty Snuffers on November 02, 2012, 11:17:00 AM
I can't seem to find 150gr glue-on points.  145's everywhere; 150 screw-ins everywhere.

I'm trying to tune some arrows for the 150gr Simmons with 75gr insert adapters I'll be ordering shortly from 3R but I can't find any 150gr glue-on points.  Trying to save a few bucks on the extra adapters/inserts I'd need to tune with screw-in points.  Anyone know where I can get 150gr glue-ons?

Thanks in advance

145 glue ons with a piece of lead shot melted in should work. In realtiy, 5 grains probably wont make that much of a difference.

145's and 150's are SO close together I doubt you or anyone else can tell the difference.

5 grs won't make much of difference at all. "Don't sweat the small stuff" comes to mind.

If you're trying to get things "perfect" I'd recommend waiting till you get the B-heads sharpened and weigh them. Then buy the closest weight field tip.

I do agree with the other comments that 5 grains isn't worth worrying about too much.

Thanks guys.  This is why I posted.  I was looking at Stu's dynamic calculator, and the bar moves a bit when you drop 5gr from the front.  Since I don't know how that movement affects the actual flight of the arrow, I figured I'd be safest going with the same weight.  It sounds like I'll be fine with the 145s.

I like the idea of weighing the broadheads once sharpened.  Thanks for that tip, Z.

H4L, thats exactly how I get my bh's matched.  side note, you may have to chop your taper if you run a long taper like I do (1 3/16ths).  If you run judo's its too long!!!  I believe its also too long for hex's if you run them.
