Do you hunt with a tab or glove? Tell me your reasoning....thanks.
I use a tab while hunting because that's what I always shoot with . I never really liked gloves, but I'm sure they would be a little easier to use when you have gloves on when it's cold out.
I voted glove because thats what I'm using right now, but I think it's what ever you get used to and like.
I never felt like a glove felt right. I have always shot tabs and never gave gloves a good chance though.
I've been back and forth and always come back to gloves.
I went with tabs, because I thought it would be tough to fit the fingers of a isulating glove into the archery glove and have it feel right. The tab could just lay over it.
I attach Velcro to the fingers of a tight fitting glove.

I shot a glove for years then tried a tab and never looked back.I seem to get a better release with a tab and when I need to use my string hand for something like untying a knot I just slip the tab to the back of my hand.
I used a tab for the first few weeks of the season but I do not like the feel of a glove under my tab. I will switch back to the glove now that it is getting colder. I have the fingerless gloves with the mitten end that folds away and it is a little difficult to get my fingers ina and out with the tab.
Tab.
Too much trouble trying to get a glove out of the way doing the 62 other things you do when hunting besides shooting.
A glove worked fine for me, but a tab is more convenient.
Although I voted glove, it is not the kind you are thinking of. As you know Roger it can get mighty cold here in Michigan. So I usually have on a wool glove with a leather palm when hunting with the bow in hand unless it is to warm and go with the glove you are actually mentioning.
can not get use to a tab at all, have used glove from the very beginning.
Tab is where it is at for me-I can flick it aside in a second to do other stuff with a glove you are stuck with it. I used a glove in the earlier days.

Same here..cept I've never used a glove other than just long enough to know I didn't like it when I first started out.
Also, I like a tab because on cold days it's easier to get my fingers warmed..either just in the pockets or with a chem hand warmer.
Tabs are cheaper to...or CAN be. If one gets sorta ruined/dried out from the rain I just get the other $8 tab..no biggie.
I do just the opposite of koops4. Glove in warmer weather and switch to a tab as the season progresses.
Regards,
Grouse
Switched to tabs last summer, been shooting better than ever! Make my own now, I can use my tab with a tight thin glove enough to keep the chill off my hand! I practice shooting that way all the time, plus I have an Asbell wool vest I keep a handwarmer in my left pocket I love those Asbell vest pockets very roomy! I used a glove in the past fingers always got real cold maybe I am just getting old! LOL
Glove here, just can't get used to a tab, it always feels like I'm holding onto something, the glove just feels like part of my hand,
Started with a glove, switched to tabs for awhile, and then went back to the glove. It just feels more natural when I grip the string and I like the protection.
I voted glove bc that's what I shoot best with. I tried the black widow tab but could not shoot acurately. It could be bc the tab is so thick I have no "feel" of the string. I may do better with another tab, but I think I'll stick with the glove for now. Maybe I'll try again after seasons over.
Tab! I have the Bateman tab with elastic ! It slips over finger on glove. All good ! The index finger pocket on the glove always twists so quite use a glove. Maxx
I use a glove as I just prefer it over a tab in all shooting conditions with my longbows. For some reason I shoot my recurves better with a tab, but I really don't shoot a recurve very often and almost never shoot recurve to hunt big game with.
As for the cold weather, I wear a hand warmer muff when on-stand. When stalking, I just wear a real thin liner glove under my shooting glove and that seems to work best for me.
Tab works great for me. Good release; and I can lay it back against my palm and put a glove on. when I need to shoot I can take the glove off and it is right there ready to go on the string. Also, I can spin it around on my finger so that its on the back of my hand and do other things like climb trees or whatever.
This is my 1st year with trad gear. During the last year I have practiced every day with a glove. But, I have a tab and I intend to practice with it during the off season.
I started with a glove, but did try a tab a couple of years ago. I liked the release with a tab and used it for awhile.
This year I went back to my glove- it just seemed I shot more consistant with the glove.
I ak because I have used a glove most of my career, but for about 3 years shot a tab, I liked it. Glove seems to be getting in the way lately. I think I may ease back into a tab. Do they still make the S.A.M.? "Super Archery Mitt"?
I've been shooting with my kuiu guide glove. Got really good with a tab over the summer, then I took a break due to life and when I started shooting again my shots were better with the glove. Just switched to a tab again when my new bow arrived for some reason. Going to try out the glove tomorrow if sandy permits.
42yrs shooting the bow, first 39 shooting a glove, bout 3yrs ago I switched to a simple leather tab and doubt I'll go back. Not that I think one is really better than the other, I shoot both well. But I like the freedom I have to use my fingers with the tab, you know, grab a arrow nock or button your shirt, unzip if you have.......well you know what I mean. Plus it seems I can keep my hand warmer.
I hate tabs. Really hard to draw and nock an arrow quickly. I feel like I'm fumbling around every time I try one. I'm sure it would get better with practice but they are not for me at all. I'll stick with my trusty glove.... now to get a new Crossover glove :----)))
Can shoot both not sure one any better than the other. I prefer a simple cordovan tab from Alaska Bowhunting. Cool in the warmer months and slips right over a wool glove when cold. Leaves my hands free for other tasks as well.
Tab only for me. Sore fingers with gloves.
I started with a glove but went back and forth between the two for a long while, now its glove only.
For me the glove has a more natural feel, as well as being more comfy and consistent when snuggled into my anchor point.
I use a glove. If it's cold, I cut the fingers out of a wool glove and slide it over my shooting glove. If it's really cold, I'll keep a handwarmer in my pocket.
I've shot both, both have advantages, glove feel more traditional, tab feel more precise with the release, glove feel faster to ¨reload¨. As for warmth I ware croc mitts and flip it when it's time.
Used a glove many years ago, moved to commercial tabs later (Widow, Saunders, etc.) but for the last 15 years or so have preferred simple, self-made one-layer leather 'Marshall-style" tabs worn over a cotton Jersey glove, even during the summer months (practice with the gear you hunt with). Tabs are ridiculously easy to make from scrap leather and cost next to nothing. They work very well, and they don't interfere with using your fingers when dexterity is needed...just spin them out of the way or attach them to a wrist cord. They are easy to fit into your pocket (with a spare) and give a better feel at anchor than do most gloves, IMO. A Jersey cotton glove worn under the tab provides enough warmth for average cold weather (which around here is about from 50 on warm October days down to about 10 degrees on cold November mornings) and the darker color helps keep the hands hidden (hands can 'flash' game as bad as an uncovered face or bow quiver fletching).
This set-up has worked very well over the years.
Black Widow cordovan tab, Have used the S.A.M. and I think 3 Rivers still sells them.
Every time I try a glove it drives me NUTS!. It feels like my hand is 6" off my face. I anchor with my fingertip on one of my teeth. I need to feel my fingertip and I can only do that with my bare finger or one with a thin silk or smartwool glove on it.
I have been shooting gloves with my recurves but am looking to switch to a Hill longbow and would like to try a tab.
I shoot three undewr and like the tab better , plus I can use it with glommits on
I am amazed it is sitting at 50/50 right now, I would have never guessed. Gloves for me. Tabs never seemed as fast or natural for me.
I shot a glove for my first 5 years. I started shooting a #60@28" bow last summer and started having a lot of finger pain.
I switched to a BW tab and can't imagine switching back.
I do, however, think a glove is much more user friendly while hunting.
I started with a glove, killed game with it, tried many different ones - liked it. I felt clumsy with a tab, but eventually I made myself get used to it. Now, it seems much more natural for hunting. I use the Fred Eichler tab. Many times I've seen game with my tab in my pocket, been able to get it out and be ready to shoot in no time.
I don't care for the tabs with the elastic band, although Bateman told me you can shoot more consistently with one. The ring type tab is very convenient for hunting, and it doesn't take long to get used to shooting it.
Tab all the way. I can wear gloves (if they aren't too heavy)with the tab over it. Hand stays warm and camo effect is better.
I've used a glove for ever and will continue to forever. It blows me away how many people like tabs. In 25 years my glove has never seemed cumbersome or in the way?
I get a better release with a tab. Tried a glove on and off over many years (all I used with a longbow for 10 years). Always back to a tab. Currently I use slightly modified Black Widow tabs (I add a spacer for the nock).
Used a tab back in my wheelie days, and started with one when I went all trad. It flew off my finger on every shot. So, I got a Damascus glove and haven't looked back. I cut three fingers off my wool glove and slip it over my shooting glove in cold weather. Never worry about dropping now.
Glove for me tried tabs some in the beginning never gave them an honest go I reckon. I use a Duraglove from three rivers. Use damascus gloves before that back in the 80's they were nice thick horse hide now too thin and soft. May try a tab again someday if I drop down in bow weight.

Something seriously, seriously wrong with a tab that EVER comes off without getting your other hand involved. I can't imagine how that was happening.
I like my Screaming Eagle cordovan tabs the best. They are just a single piece of cordovan. I've tried several different gloves, but none of them work as well for me as that plain little tab. I really wanted to like my Big Shot glove, which cost as much as four tabs, but I just could not get consistent, clean releases with it. I find it MUCH easier to nock an arrow with my tab than with any glove.
Glove. I use a fingerless fleece glove on my shooting hand when it gets cold and a normal glove on my bow hand. If need fingertips for anything I can slip the glove tips off quick and back on just as quick while keeping the wrist strap attached.
I like my Hill glove the best but in all honesty I have to go with the Bateman cordovan tab. More consistant anchor better back tension as result and cleaner release. Everything is confirmed at the target face.
Bateman TCD cordovan.
I am a tab kinda guy, but have shot a glove quite a bit. It seems pretty split down the middle on the poll.
God Bless,
Nathan
Glove here. I've tried tabs and always go back to the glove.
Shoot glove and have a new crossover to try.
Bought a tab Cordova to try. Hate having a glove on when there is dexterity things to do.
I've shot both, but prefer a Saunders Fab Tab with no padding trimmed as small as possible.
