So yesterday is day one of my one week rut vacation I take every year and what an incredible day. I saw a couple nice bucks in the morning but let them walk and witnessed grunting, chasing, everything was getting fired up. What a great week it was going to be. Then in the afternoon, right at 4:30, I see a big 7 come out and start hitting scrapes along the field edge. I had seen this brute before and told my son he would be in trouble if he got too close.
Well, he got too close! :bigsmyl: After some grunts and bleats, he turned right to me and at 15 yds my mind flipped into kill mode and I watched the arrow zip right through his chest. It was a little further back than where I was looking but still in the boiler! He ran in a half circle and disappeared in a bedding area and I could see the blood coming out as he ran so I knew I was in good shape!
My family came out after picking up the boys from practice (otherwise this might have been Jake's kill since he was under his stand making scrapes prior to me shooting him!)and we followed the trail to a quick recovery. The wensel woodsman and vapor carbonwood did a fine job. My buddy asked what the heck I hit him with because there was spray everywhere where he dropped....crazy! Well here he is, he is not a monster but after bustin up my ribs at my youngest son's birthday party (another story altogether!!) I feel pretty lucky to have been able to get into the tree to harvest this deer. And I just don't have any restraint sometimes when it comes to taking deer with my longbow....time for a doe tag! :goldtooth:

Thanks guys, I knew my fellow tradgangers would understand where I am coming from!!! Some of my compound buddies were shocked I dropped the hammer so quick, but man, there is just something about smokin' a buck with trad gear that makes it hard to resist. Nice to know I am in good company!! :notworthy:

Oh...I'd HAVE restraint, Hoss!
A fall restraint that is cause if I even SAW a deer that nice where I hunt, I'd definitely fall outa my tree stand and only be saved by my fall restraint!
Congrats on a heavy ole boy... Lord only sends so many boats in the flood... you done good!
Wow! Nice! Nice! Nice!
Hey guys- that's my Jim Reynolds Thunderstick Mag, 60" 50#@28". She is quick, quiet, and deadly!!
Congrats, man...Nice Buck
Sometimes restraint ain't all its cracked up to be. Good shot!
congrats , well done :clapper:
Nice buck.
I have too often had too much restraint over the years.
In south Mississippi the only restraints we have are those we take the family out to eat at!
That there is FUNNY Possum Head, got quite the chuckle out of that!!
That Looks to be a nice one..CONGRADS!!
Good deer. Congrats
Here is the photo of where he was found. That WW did a number on him. I have never seen it spray out like this. Even being color blind I could follow the blood trail he left, it was awesome!

Around here that buck would be a true trophy. And you are absolutely right about how it feels doing it with a stick bow. Nice job.
Almost feels like the pressure is off when you get one good'en down.
Nice buck!
God Bless,
Nathan
Nice buck! There would have been no restraint from me either.
Restraint is over rated,I'd have pulled the trigger in a heart beat, beautiful buck, congrats.
Wouldn't have passed him either. Where I hunt that is a good one.
Great deer, Congrats! Looks to be a shooter to me.
I passed up a buck once in 2005, I'm still kicking myself! Nice shot.

Congrats! I'm not sure restraint was necessary on that one. I am at the point where it just needs to be brown!
