Earlier this evening I heard a pack of Yotes sound of in response to a nearby train horn which isn't to uncommon here. What was different this evening was it sounded as though there could have been a dozen running together. How common are packs of 10 or more?
I have seen as many as 5 running together on a few occasions. I guess 10 isn't outside the realm of possibility.
one coyote can sound like 5 or 6. my guess would be that it was 2 or 3 in a general area. at the most 4
I've sen 9 in one bunch. They can sound like twice as many when they get goin.
Saw 7 at one time in Arlington tx including 2 domestics running with pack
It sounds crazy, but if you ever get to see a single coyote start singing, that one will make that wailing, up and down, multi-tone sound. You probably heard one or two rather than a pack. Maybe several singles in different locations. A single dog can sound like a whole bunch. It's really something to see if you ever get the chance.
I saw a large pack of coyotes while driving through Oklahoma about two years ago. If I recall correctly, there were at least 8, probably 10.
I've seen 5 together two different times. I've been calling before and had coyotes howling back from every direction. They really do sound like a lot more than there really is once they get going.
Most likely one or two female pups still hanging with Mom and Dad. They can sound like theres a bunch of them. Packs are breaking up now. Males will be loners if they have no mate yet. and the girls will be together with hubby or dad aunt hazzel might be in there also.. About two months and all heck is going to break out in coyote world. :jumper:
