Title: Resharpening a Grizzly on KME
Post by: term on October 26, 2012, 06:50:00 AM
I got them crazy sharp! Now I need to touch up 3. Problem is, bevel is set by jig and I cant get a new burr. Anybody been through this before? By the way they are single bevel. Thanks TERM

Or ceramic sticks if you have any. Works wonders on mine for touchup. I also use cardboard as well.

Sorry gave you the wrong idea. They are dull shot through animal and into ground. Thanks for the responses. TERM

Are you using the broadhead or knife sharpener?

If you're not getting a burr, the stone you're using isn't coarse enough. The burr doesn't need to be huge, just needs to be there. As you lightly pull your fingertips out from under the unbeveled side, the edge will feel mildly ragged if the burr is raised. Work the bevel side on the coarsest stone you can get your hands on till that little burr is raised. Once you have that, it's all over but the shoutin'. Give me a call if you need any help.

No Hap,

What I mean is 90% of the "work" involved when sharpening any kind of blade is accomplished at the coarsest stage. We know that we've got it licked when we can see or at least feel the burr. There's still a little more finishing work to be done before the blade is ready for stropping but not much.  More later... it's starting to get light outside!!!

Next to talking to Ron,  reading this thread by Jim B is as good of a tutorial as you can get.

I had good luck with Jim B method and KME broadhead sharpener on some old grizzly's last year.  Hasn't worked well on one of the new Grizzly Kodiak's I tried.  Think maybe the edge on the Kodiak is a little off, 3 hours on extra course diasharp and still won't get the sharpie off from end to end.  Played around with clamping it different ways and still can't get it to take all the mark off.  Think I'm going to use that head as a practice head and try another one in the pack to see if I have better luck.
