Rare is the time afield when everything works in unison. This morning it did, and then some. I took my first buck using the bow that my friends hear me refer to as "Dad's Lucky Bow" . . . the Tall Tines recurve that bowyer Brian Wessel of
Iowa inlaid with a piece of bone taken from the antlers of my father's last buck. I was wearing a wool plaid jacket manufactured by my friend Rob Tiberio of New Jersey and a hat he also designed with a little input from the Wensel brothers and myself along the way. My leather quiver and armguard were made by master leathersmith Art Vincent of Nashville. The business end of the arrow was manufactured by my friends at Vantage Point Archery in Indiana. Traditional archery allows you the privilege of using many custom - made in America, products and it's just one of the reasons that I'm drawn to the lifestyle. The morning began with a perfect sunrise and ended an hour after first light with a 12 yard shot on a 3 1/2 year old, 9 point, 204 pound, Kentucky whitetail. No monster set of antlers but he sure made my book. Once he made the 40 yard mad dash the work really began, a long single man drag through a maze of brush and other entanglements back to the truck . . . I'm getting too old for some of this stuff but for now the rewards exceed the strain!

X2
Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your comments. To answer one of your questions, I didn't have my Bullpac with me this time . . . so had to drag-em out. I just talked to my taxidermist about having the deer shoulder mounted. We have a room where only "special animals" are displayed and I believe that this guy qualifies.
Thats a very special buck, thanks for taking the time to share him with us,congrats. :clapper: :clapper:

Very nice!
I enjoy your posts and especially your pictures Gary. Thanks.
In the excitement of yesterday's hunt I forgot that I had a game camera attached to a tree pointing toward a nearby scrape. It was also aiming through the woods to the base of my treestand. Photos show the buck with his leg forward just before I released my arrow. Moments later I'm on the ground surveying the sign!

Your pics rank with the best. Congrats.

Kept the back straps and other better cuts from this buck, then boned out the rest for salami and jerky! There's a place near here that makes superb salami with pepper jack cheese.
Awesome! and great picture! Blow it up and frame it!
That's great. Love that you got you and the deer on game cam.
Also glad to see Classic Sportsman finally got its website up and running!

Congratulations brother, fine buck there.
What a nice buck taken with a bow that means a lot to you. As always, whenever your threads come up the first thing I do is get my wife to show her some incredible photography.
I think you should get some kind of an award for having the coolest looking outfits.
Congratulations on an outstanding trophy! :clapper:

Way to go Gary!
Moment of a life time! Congratulations.
JW
Great Buck congrats Gary
You all are too kind. Eric, you asked about the side quiver. I love that quiver, probably have about four of Art's side quivers now. The one in the photo is the "Powderhorn Wilderness Stalker" which Art and I co-designed a few years ago. It's based upon his classic stalker with a few new features that I suggested. We named it the "Powderhorn" after I field tested it for Art on a 2 week elk hunt in that Colorado wilderness area.
As far as the wool clothing, the jacket and hat are creation of Rob Tiberio's company, "Classic Sportsman Sporting Woolens", aka "Classic Bowman". I spent a week with Rob in and around New York City last June and saw first hand how high quality "American Made" clothing comes into being. It's a daunting task, but Rob's accepted the challenge for all of the right reasons. I can't say enough about what he's producing. Heirloom quality, highly functional jackets and hats.
Glad to hear that you and your wife enjoy the photos Bernie. I try to capture the moments as I experience them with the hope that years later they will still convey those special days afield.
Way to go Gary! Nice deer! :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Nice!
Thanks Gary! I've already got an online account with Arts' company, ready to use! :archer:
Art can add custom touches as well. He carved oak leaves, acorns, and a primitive arrow image into the quiver seen in the phot0 I posted.
We took the "special buck" friday to visit my long time taxidermist, Larry Thomas, in Baghdad Kentucky. Chose the Mckenzie semi-sneak head down form to display his unique left browe tine better, not to mention that he was getting aggressive when I released my arrow. He had a snoot full of pre-orbital gland scent I had placed over the scrape. We're adding a wall habitat to the mount (artificial driftwood, pine branch, moss, etc) to represent the woods where I hunted him. He should be back home in May!
