A few weeks ago I found an apple tree that was just loaded with apples. There were a couple problems though. First there aren't any trees to put a stand in. Second a popup blind wasn't going to work because the ground is just too steep. So my solution was to set on the edge of the weed line in my ghille. I have wore it before but haven't had any deer go by to try it out. I wasn't sure if my plan would work or not. Last night after about an hour of waiting I could hear something coming through the weeds. My plan of attack was about to be tested.
And then .......
Awesome, I hunted out of my ghille sunday and I had a blast. Didnt see any deer but the wildlife was amazing, up close and personal.
Cant waite to hear the rest of your story.

Hunted Friday evening and Saturday morning on the ground with my ghillie. On Friday I didn't see any deer and my hunting partners didn't see me, although I could clearly see them. On Saturday morning I had a spiker at 8 yards and one at 12 yards. The close one saw me move but didn't notice me until then. He followed my homemade deer lure to within 10 yards before the wind gave me away. The second spiker (much smaller) came in at 12 yards hit the lure and came right to me. Didn't spook until he got straight downwind. Then he looked/searched for me before walking away. He never identified me. Can't wait to give it another go. Good luck.
Owlbait.
What is your homemade deer lure? You have sparked my curiosity.
Combination of doe urine, glycerine oil, tonquin musk, and star anise seeds. Those deer were ON IT!

x2 Day Dreamer. I have a "leafy Jacket" and I've had turkeys within 10 yds and I had a fox within 15 yds. These animals cant figure out why this bush is holding a recurve....
Had to get some dinner. Now this is where things start to get exciting. Over my left shoulder about 8 yards away 2 deer are coming down the hill. I was sure they would spot me sitting in the weeds as they passed by. Seeing that they were headed straight for me I got ready for what was about to happen. The first one to step into my window of opportunity was a fat old doe. She picked up an apple and stared in my direction as she chewed it. She is a mere 10 yards away. I told myself any sec now she is going to pick me out. To my suprise she finished that apple and started to look for another. All the while I hid behind my recurve. She stepped forward to get another apple but it rolled down the bank. The ole girl took 2 steps to chase it, revealing her chest. I thought now all I have to do is get to full draw. It was just like she read my mind. She grabbed that apple and looked away from me as she ate it. I came to full draw and picked a spot....
I will get back to the story in a little bit.
Come on man!!!
Man that's just not right!!!! :nono:
You are killing me man! :(
Please tell me at the end of this story there will be a picture.
Bob.
I gotta get me a ghillie jacket for sure...
Good stuff. Would love to see pic of you from deer's view in your set up.
Sorry guys. Back to the good stuff. There I am at full draw, with a big doe at ten yards, and looking the other way. The shot was off. As she ran I couldn't believe I had pulled it off. I've finally done something I have tried many times. I think the ghille jacket I had on worked perfectly. There is nothing more exciting than when every thing comes together. I am one happy hunter. Thanks for looking. (http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k592/jet26photos/100_1362.jpg)

Congratulations on a great hunt Mike!!
Beautiful! Sitting on the ground with deer that close sure kicks it up a notch doesn't it?
Great job!
Thanks guys. It sure was very nerve racking for a little while.
I would like to hunt out of a ghillie some time. Maybe one of these days I will buy or better yet, build one.
God Bless,
Nathan

Congrats on your success. Doesn't happen every time on the ground, but when it does, you just can't beat it. Would also like to see you in your Ghillie, in your set up location. Thanks for sharing.

Great story, great job! Congrats
What kind of ghillie were you wearing?
I was wearing a brushrag ghillie. It has a mesh that you can add vegetation. When I set up I added a few weeds. I think that it help melt me into my surroundings. The ghillie is woodland camo pattern.
I have a Bushrag Ghillie. Love it.

Been hunting with my ghillie on the ground exclusively so far this year. Two weeks ago had six hens walk past me at 4 yards without spotting me. Couldn't draw on them without being spotted so just let them walk. Later had two more within 30 yards but wouldn't come on my side of the fence. Fun stuff.
A big congrats Mike. We need a better look at that bow though....where' d you buy that thing? Lol!
Great fun !
Congrats on the doe..
