What would be most of your choices for recurves. Like what would be your "wish list" I had two Schafers in the past and two Blacktails in the past. Man I wish I had one of those Schafers back....
1. Atilla Archery Hungarian Hunter
2. Hwarang Janggung (Korea)
3. Samick SKB
4. Black Widow
5. Hoyt Dorado/Buffalo/Excel
1. Dale Dye
2. Schafer
3. Fedora 560
4. Blacktail
5. Assenheimer
Way too personal of a question...that is why there are so many custom bows.
I spent most of the decade of the 2000s trading high end recurve after high end recurve until I found the one...for me.
That is the TallTines.
I have shot just about all the different recurves made and there are a LOT of excellent bows out there, but the TallTines is the whole package for me. I don't own any other recurves and I don't even want to shoot other bows now that I have my TT's.
chucks ambush recurve from two tracks is pretty sweet!
Right now for me:
1. Sasquatch
2. Habu Hycurve
3. Metal riser Predator (LH unavailable to date)
4. Schafer Silvertip
5. Bear Custom Kodiak TD - A Handle (Type 1 LH--My dreamer)
I have others that are great and many consider their #1's. Handling feel is most important to me. Performance on my chronograph is #2. Aesthetics are #3. The chrony is important to me because it is the only objective measure I have.
As Steve writes above, this is a very personal question. I've owned and moved bows that others consider perfect.
If I could add a 6th it would be a bow no longer made, Rose Oaks's rendition of the Super K (Super Wildcat).
Widow
Zipper Sxt
Schafer
Blacktail
Morrison Cheyenne
Widow
Schafer tip
There's a few names that always pop up and I doubt and are really better than the others. All have their own "personality" though. It all comes down to personal preference.
Of the bows I own or have owned, Blacktail is my favorite. My Silvertip and Dye recurves are a close second and I'm really liking the Robertson Fatal Styk I picked up through the classifieds. I could live happily with any of the bows in my signature, that's why I've kept them.
New:
Whippenstick Phoenix - or Firestorm, Inferno
Cari-Bow
Border black Douglas
Rodney Wright - Firehawk
Jack Kempf Kwyk Styk
Used: because you can't get them new anymore
Fazio Ballistick
You've had 2 of the best, as far as I'm concerned. My list
Silvertip 1pc
Silvertip TD
Anything with Border HEX6 limbs
Caribow Taiga
Tall Tines, have'nt tried one as yet, but is on my list
1 border black douglas hex6 bb2
2 border black douglas hex6 bb2
3 border black douglas hex6 bb2
4 border black douglase hex6 bb2
5 border black douglas hex6 bb2
nothing can compare with this recurve...I have owned more of 100 bows during the ten past years, and all of them (silvertip, shawnee, blacktail, buffalo, BW, etc) are outpasted by far by this bow at each level (softness; stability; quietness and speed)...
however I would be very pleased to give a chance to the sasquatch !
Any list without a Blacktail is just not a complete list.
I altready have my first choice in recurves, a Zipper SXT but I wouldn't mind one day getting my hands on a Dale Dye, Blacktail or Kwyk Stik.
Morrison
Dye
Blacktail
Black widow
1962 Bear Kodiak
Original Bear Wood TD (A)
Dale Dye
Bear Magnesium TD (A) with Border Hex6 limbs
Border Black Douglas (which I don't own)
I know its personal taste, but it's fun to see what you all think...and to help in researching for possible dream bows....Surprised I havent seen Palmer!
1-Bear Take down
2-Dale Dye
3-Blacktail
4-Silvertip
5-Anything by Brandon Stahl - Rose Oak Creations
Whippenstick Phoenix I know for sure, because I own one. :) For me the ultimate 3 pce recurve bow.
Then I would like to try a whole bunch of others, like a Toelke Lynx/curlew, Caribow Tuktu/Taiga, Bigfoot Sasquatch, Blacktail, Silvertip, Acadian woods, Eaglewing from which the riser fits my hand (fantastic shooting recurves!) , Whisperstick, and stuff like that....
Bear Type 1 "B" TD

Toelke Kestrel
Toelke Curlew
Toelke ...........
All Other Recurves
I realize I may sound like a Toelke Addict , but I could not be happier with.my Bows or my Bowyer. Besides, it's all in the eyes of the beholder :)
Tu Compadres, Sutty
Zipper, Black Widow, Bob Lee Ultimate, Stalker, Predator, etc.. the list goes on and on. Thankfully now days just about any custom bow you can order and most mass produced bows will shoot better than most of us will. The trick becomes to find which one fits you. When you buy any of the top of the line bows being produced today I have never found one that outperforms another by a large margin at all. My bow my outperform your bow in my hands but in your hands it would be a totally different story.
Well said James and I agree if the bow doesn't fit all goes out the window.
Martin Super Diablo
Bear Kodiak
Assenheimer
Robertson
Black widow
Being a longbow guy at heart, here are my favorite recurves...
Kempf Kwyk Styk 56"
Toelke Kestral 52"
Widow PSA 58" (think I would really like the PCH in 56", but haven't tried one yet...)
Silvertip (had a 60", think I would like the 58" better just haven't tried one yet...)
Last choice... Open...
not in any particular order...and why I like them :
1. Old bear Kodiaks... quality and shoot right up there with modern recurves yet made 50 years ago plus....
2. The Mongoose.... Old style handle with static curves made by Quartermoon longbows in Pincher Creek, Alberta by Bert Frelink.....fast quiet and accurate..... pretty
3. Summit Recurve by Bow River Archery..bowyer Rick Lepp...Cochrane Alberta.... three piece takedown..best finnished bow you'll see. Unfortunately Rick retired from the bow business
4. Sovereign Ballistik.....very fast, quiet static recurve
5. Old Bear takedowns......very ingenius latch design and nice shooters...
.....not tried em all but would love to try every bow made LOL
Dale Dye
Blacktail
Robertson
Fox
Applalachian- savage river
62" Tall Tines 3 pc.
56" Kwyk Styk
60" Silvertip 3 pc.
Great Plains SR Swift "Black Hawk" 3 pc
A toss up between my 67 1/2 Super K and 64 Kodiak .........all at 55-56#
4 Morrisons and a Dye.
Zipper SXT

I have shot lots of high end bows and for a recurve the only one I want is a Bob Lee.
Sovereign Ballistik
Damon Howatt Hunter
Bear Grizzly
Robertson Peregrine
Assenheimer
Quinn Stallion
Martin Hunter
Bear Grizzly
Black Widow
Haven't tried must else but also haven't needed to. Though I'm sure there's a long list of great ones.
Black Widow TF, SA
Saluki Ibex
Saluki Scythian
Also, I think Cari-bow, Great northern and whisperstik
need to be on this list.
I hunt with a longbow, but LOVE those salukis and one piece recurves.
1. Bear Takedown A or B wood riser
2. Vintage Works 62 Kodiak replica
3. Rose Oak Ultra Delight
4. 1960 Kodiak Deluxe
5. Mike St John Bear replica takedown
PSA
Silver Tip
Great Plains SR Swift
I would like to try a Predator, and a Tall Tines
1) Zipper Extreme
2) Widow PCH
3) Bob Lee
4) Wes Wallace
5) Grayling Bear bows
With so many great bows out there that have so many great qualities, tough choice.
Three bows that are not made anymore, yet in my opinion are great shooters...my 56" Groves Spitfire and 56" Original Stewart Multi-Cam T/D. One more that I regret selling to Danny Rowan, was Bow River Archery Summitt T/D.
Top 3..60" Kempf Stealth T/D, 60" one piece Fedora and 56" Kempf Kwyk Styk.
Well, I've shot quite a few over the last 25 years. Maybe in the next 25 I can shoot all the rest.LOL.

Bill Stewart Multi-Cam
Vintage Works 59 Hybrid
Browning Explorer II (1966)
Black Widow
Cascade
Predator

I really like both my Zipper SXT and Robertson Fatal Styk, but would love to give a Schafer or Blacktail a workout to see what all the fuss is about (other than that fact that they are lookers).
Fedora 560
Wes Wallace
Blacktail
Brackenbury
Assenheimer
For me its the Stalker Static, thats the only recurve I own. Like mentioned above that's a pretty personal choice :)

Tu Compadres, Sutty
I love the Chinook, really my favorite.
1. Toelke Chinook
2. Great Northern Ghost (index grip)
3. Bear 59 kodiak
4. Zipper EXtreme
5. Caribou (all of them)
I would be happy with either the Chinook or the GN Ghost if I could have only one bow. They are a step ahead of the others in terms of design, smoothness, speed and quiet.
I have owned them all, trust me,LOL for me it is the Schafer Silvertip and Brackenbury Quest for recurves and Cari-bow Silver Fox and Slynx for longbows.
Tall tines all the way for me ...and will never look back
I'm going to qualify my response because I haven't shot all the recurves... :^) here are my favorites thus far

Zipper
BP Mercury Hunter
Trails End (Dale Dye)
Bear's Paw (Neil Jacobsen)

5 pages into this topic and nobody has mentioned the Gamemaster Jet by Jack Howard. I can't believe that. I do have 5 of them, so I guess my list is complete.

Jack always gets forgotten somehow. Don't know why as I think he built some of the most beautiful bows ever made.
1/ Kwyk Styk -58"
2/ Black Widow (Black) 62"
3/ Tall Tines 60"
Whippenstick Phoenix
RER Vital
Eaglewing Talon II
Had a ton of bows. I would say Silvertip,Dale Dye,Robertson Fatal Styk. With the FatalStyk in 1st place.
will_hunt, that Asbell Big horn aint the fastest or lightest bow, but it's a shooter with a great high wrist grip! Really enjoyed shooting that one.
1. Martin Hunter
2. Wes Wallace Mentor
3. Dalaa
4. RER
5. Bear T/D
I may likely have never touched any of the top five recurves.
Those of which I have been fortunate to have played music from were far superior to my own inept skills. thus rendering my judgement invalid. However, my vote resides with those bows which have granted the utmost mercy and forgiveness as well immersing me w/I the spirit of the arrow.
In Order:
Tolke Kestral
Tolke kestrel
Morrison ilf
Schafer tip
Schafer tip
Black widow PCH
I mostly shoot longbows, but I really enjoy shooting my Wes Wallace, and I have a Whippenstick Phoenix on order.
One bow that I keep coming back to is my Wes Wallace. I've tried a few different bows, but that's my favorite. I'd still like to get a few of those"top of the line" recurves like Schafer, Robertson, Blacktail, and tall tines.
Bob lee recurves for me x2
Would like to try a talltines and a RER
And my last one is my Lewis hollow archery hayesteni combo
59'Bear Grizzly
65'Bear Kodiak
61'Bear Polar
61'Bear K-Mag
2013 Hill Country Bobcat Curve
Not necessarily in that order.
not in any order
-Bob Lee
-dryad ILF
-Holm River Runner
-Cari Bow
-Kota
also my favorite bow that ive found so far is a hill country longbow, I would love to try one of their recurves
My list willbe based on how often you see one for sale, how long the bow been in production, and popularity.
1.Robertson Falcon
2.Hummingbird
3.Fedora
4.Bob Lee
5.Palmer
All depends on my mood.
1 Any Zipper
2 Widow pch & psa
3 Assenheimer
4 Wes Wallace
5 Grayling Bear bows
If I were to go white-tail hunting tomorrow, this is the order I would be considering these days:
1. Titan 2 w/ BF Extreme Carbon/Foam Limbs
2. Schafer Silvertip
3. Habu Mamushi
4. Habu Vypekahn Recurve
5. Bigfoot Sasquatch
A Morrison w/ Max 1 limbs is working its way on this list.
either my Predator(s) or my Black Widow or my Bear T/D wait my Samick awe nevermind, LOL
I'm surprised that a Wapiti wasn't mentioned since they have been around so long.
I am converting to longbows but if i had to pick recurves i have shot:
1) HABU hycurve
2) HABU recurve
3) Eagle Wing
Big gap
4) Silvertip
5) Tall tines
Note - #4,5 excellent bows just cannot get near the same level pf quiet.
St. Joe, Java Man Tanjavur, Bob Lee, Martin Serengeti, Checkmate Hunter II (too bad they still aren't made)
#1 56" kempf Stealth #2 56" Kwyk styk #3 52" Stealth #4 58" Kwyk Styk # 5 Martin 60" 50 yr special edition takedown
There are just to many awesome Recurves out there to narrow it to just five I shoot a Longbow but if I did shoot a Recurve I think it would be a Ferret by Herb Meland or a Stalker by South Cox.
For the moment,Border with Hex 6 limbs and RER Vital
