Title: Stewart, Centaur or Black Widow?
Post by: Black on October 20, 2012, 02:43:00 PM
Hello community!
I have a question!
I have some Black Widows (of recurve and long bows)
Now what's new is on me once again.
My problem is that I'm home in Europe, so can not try!
My choice:
Leon Stewart, (Slammer)
Centaur, (carbon elite)
or I'm staying at the widow?
The bow should have 80-90# and good casting performance.
What is also very important to me, beautiful wood and processing!
What you would recommend me?
I know it's hard what to recommend.
I just thought, - perhaps you can help me?
LG from Austria

Tough choice right there!! I like them all , but I am partial to the Leon Stewart bows. He is truly a Mentor of mine and a awesome bowyer.

Should verify bowyer will build bow to your desired specs.

Ex. Centaur Carbon Elite is only built to 70#s.

I have already emailed him!
Black Widow is so strong!
Leon, I think also!
Perhaps those who scored a BW PL and a Slammer?
Perhaps can one describe his experience me of you?

Leon's bows are superior performers with flawless craftsmanship. All three are great bows, but that would be my choice.

I would not take 2 BW Pl's Over 1 Slammer....Had Both ..Still Hunt with a 56" 58"and 60" Slammer..Recurves...Widows are a contender,But not next to a TIP..

Is the handle very much different from the Leon Stewart as of the widow?

This is easy to answer, my Leon Stewart is my go to bow.

Hmm, looks, Leon Stewart would be the better bow?

I have owned 4 PLX Widows.  I have to make sure I am holding the Widow's grip the exact same way to ensure shot consistency. The grip on the Stewart Slammer is awesome. Hand placement is the same each shot.  Shot to shot consistency is great.  Hand seems to be in the exact same location without effort.  Performance in each bow is almost the same.  The Stewart seems to be built a little beefier with a little wider limbs and maybe even an added lamination or two in limb thickness.  This may not make any difference but with you wanting to shoot at more than 70#, may make a difference.

Kevin, which means it is produced rather you Stewart from the grip!
Have I understood it correctly?

I had a PLX 83#@28  that I drew to 86#,  I shot a  light (for this bow) 740 grain arrow that came to 8.6 gpp. It was very fast and flat and even though the arrow was light for 86#, 740 fast moving grains is nothing to sneeze at especialy in the longer distances of 30-40 yards.

You have some photos of your Stewart's Slammer?

Yes, the standard grip design on the Stewart provides me a more consistent hand placement than the standard PL grip.  Although, you can  order a PL with the Toby style grip or probably even a custom grip.
