Title: QUESTION ABOUT WOOL!
Post by: Dendy Cromer on October 19, 2012, 07:27:00 PM
I need some advice friends. I buy a lot of wool shirts online- mostly used. Some machine wash, some dry clean-- never a problem until now. I bought a really nice, thick shirt/jacket that is a great pattern for hunting and fits me really well. But it STINKS. It smells like mouse pee and i can't get rid of it. I washed it against manufacturer's suggestions, and had it dry cleaned- but it still smell like it has been in someone's barn. I like it and i don't want to return it- what's a solution?

I used some sent remover for hunting on some, I think it was Pimos green spray bottle(silver something) on some wool that smelled...it took away all the odor ,,it made me a believer

You might try used dryer sheets (new ones might stain your shirt). Put in a sealable bag and leave for a while. If this does not work then throw it away.

If your hunting around farm ground sounds like the perfect shirt for a cover scent ... All kidding aside I'm very curious if the scent will come out because I have been contemplating on buying a few thing off **** for hunting coats and have been hesitant for this very reason

Good luck

You could dedicate it as you mouse hunting shirt with built in cover scent.

Roll it in baking soda or borax, shake it in a plastic bag, let sit a few days ans shake it up.  Change the powder and repeat

They sell urine neytralizer for dogs and cats

Might try one of those

try the ozone treatment.  However, don't stand there wearing it while it is being treated.

I really like outwests answer and it make a lot of sense    :biglaugh:

What will get rid of any scent is an ozone generator. Trying to find someone in your area that has one might not be easy.

Scent killer or baking soda works well!!!   Curious what ends up working for you.    I know and old couch I was given smelled like a wet dog.   Scent killer worked wonders!

I think I would use the baking soda or charcoal for a few days and then let it hang outside for a while. Maybe sprinkle the baking soda on it when you put it outside.

1 Trashbag, 1 Box of Baking Soda.
Open Baking Soda put in bag, not dumped in, just put in the open box in the bag, place garment inside, tie up let sit 2 days. Let hang outside for a couple days.

just to be clear--- it doesn't reek to the point that i can't stand it, but everybody here knows that musty, ratty smell. It smells of that a little. I've got it hanging outside on the edge of the woods. I'll give it a few days , then check it. If not satisfactory- I'll try whatever's next on the list and share the results.

After the baking soda and hanging outside for a few days you may consider putting it in a black trash bag with fresh cut evergreen boughs. Set that out in direct sunlight for a few hours

Try a product called Natures Miracle, it is sold at Pet Smart. We used it to clean up after puppies during potty training, it works great to take away pee smell.
