When the hunting seasons start, dont stop shooting.
I havent shot my block target for nearly 2 weeks until today, and it didnt take me long to realize that i wasnt up to my full potential.
Just a reminder, in order to keep your shooting eyes keen, and your muscles in tune for that one shot, take the time to shoot that bag, block or stump every so often, it really helps in putting them shots where they should be. :archer2:
I just shot at my clubs target range Wednesday night. Makes me very confident going to hunt on Saturday.
I shoot a couple of dozen at lunch nearly everyday, it pays off.
Its amazing how fast you can loose your edge, no matter how much ive shot throughout the year, in just 2 weeks i could see the difference.
I always carry a judo arrow when hunting, I take at least a few shots before getting in my stand and usually one from the stand. Never stop praticing! :jumper:
This is one of those things that seasoned archery hunters do automatically. but it's really easy to get into the hunt stage and not take time to do it.
i too keep a judo point arrow in my quiver and shoot a few arrows each day at minimum.
i think the most comman boo-boo i see archers make is not practicing in the same clothes they wear to hunt in.
My hunting party has shifted from 5 hard core seasoned archery hunters to a couple old men and a batch of upcoming youngsters. most of these young men are using high tech equipment and are at various stages in the evolution a hunter goes though.
The most common oops i see is string clearance wearing heavy clothing or baggy shirt sleeves.
One of my favorite, and most important things i keep handy in my pack, on the dash of my truck, and in my quiver, is Knee high nylon stockings.... or better yet the knee high support hose, the older gals wear..... You just cut the toes out of these things and roll them up your bow arm right over your rain gear, coat, or even baggy sleeves on your camo shirts clear to your arm pit if necessary.
I still get strange looks from guys from time to time, but I've got the young men in camp wearing them now after blowing a few shots.
Warning! Don't get caught rooting through your wife's stocking drawer the night before you go hunting.... you are much better off asking her for some with runs in them, or just go buy your own....
That's a fun shopping trip walking into the women's underwear department in full dress camo.
:biglaugh:
I shoot every morning before I head to work. 8 arrows from a ladder against a tree to targets (leaves etc, at different ranges 10 to 25 yards), then those into a target while sitting on a small stool.
I always shoot during the season. I am "off" if I skip a week or so. Good suggestion
