Title: Need help with skinny string
Post by: Ladams on October 16, 2012, 10:59:00 AM
I have built my own strings for years, Recently I tried to make a skinny string, I used to same setting on my string jig that I would have used for a normal string. but the string is way too long, What is the formula to build a skinny string on my jig that will end up the right length, Im am out of ideas,
Larry

I drop down an inch or two. I can check for sure when I get home from work. Fewer strands means the string won't shorten as much per twist, so you will have to start shorter. I have it marked on my jig. If someone doesn't help you before then, I will after 3:30.

I usally drop down about an 1" to 1.5" for a skinny string. But it also depends on which string material I'm using.A 450+ doesn't stretch as much as a D97 when making one up.It's alittle bit trial and error getting the correct length then was I was used to on making strings.
