:campfire: lets get on with it ....
Come on Little Buddy!!!! :banghead: :banghead:
Hi Folks!
Sorry for the delay but I've been going since early this morning. It got pretty warm here today and we had to get the hide off the deer, get him quartered and in the fridge.
Last night was one of those special nights where you touch on all the emotions. Thankfully the last emotion was a big old smile!
I've had a pretty good season and I'll admit I've been torn between my Silvertip recurve and a little 60" Toelke Lynx longbow that I just can't seem to stop shooting. I've carried both to the woods this year, which to be honest is not real intellegent. Fortunately, the three deer I've taken have all been taken clean and all with my Toelke. It's 50@28 and I'm shooting 35/55 Gold Tips and 200 grain VPA's.
The night started out pretty quiet. I got in early and to be honest was pretty frustated as the sun started dipping below the trees. I'm hunting the edge of a 5 acre bedding area that is bordered on the east by a 50 acre alphalfa field. It's a pretty sweet spot.
Just as I felt the temperature cooling down I glanced over my shoulder to see a small 6 pointer popping out into the field. As I glanced back a nice 7 pointer came out of the thick stuff. It's early in the season and I figured I'd play with this guy a bit and snort wheezed at him. He glanced over his shoulder and kept walking. Just then a nice 8 came out right behind him walking away but looking back at me the whole time. I was only about 80 yards away and his rack wasn't what caught my eye, it was his gorgeous double white throat patch! When he looked away I snort wheezed a second time. This time the 8 stopped, turned and layed his ears back....dropping back into the thicket heading my way. :scared:
He was coming, without question!
I stood up and laughed as my legs started shaking. I'm usually not a shaker but tonight I was all over the place. Rookie, I thought to myself....LOL>>>
About 5 minutes passed, nothing. Than I caught a glimpse of movement. He was coming dead at me and all I could see was his white tines. At 30 yards he made a slight right, damn. As he was walking away I cupped my hand and snort wheezed a third time! He literally came unglued and did a 180 right at me. Ears back and swaying. Before I knew it he was at 20 yards, 15 and then he stopped and looked out into the field....slightly quartering!
