I had a pretty wierd day on this hunt. I was at a property I don't hunt to much theres only about 8 acres pf woods and it's in the form of hedgerow type deal along a creek, but at the end it opens up to about a 70 by 50 yard patch of pretty open woods. Now where I'm hunting is right on the property line in a permanent stand the I know an electrcian made because it's all built out of strut. The director of apprentences for my local built it unknowingly on my hunting property and had a falling out with the owner and is no longer aloud to hunt it, so needless to say I did not want to run into him he cold make my life as a apprentice miserable. Well about 5:00 a guy came to hunt a stand i hadn't noticed literally two feet over the line. We exchanged words, he ended up being a friend of theirs and didnt want to ruin my hunt so he left. I thought about leaving after all the commotion but decided to stay, Im glad I did. I had a really nice red fox I sqeaked in but missed. After he came by i had what I thought was 5 doe including the deer i shot come through a opening about 18 inches wide at 25 yards which I usually don't like to shoot. I let them all come through then noticed the coloring on this deer and decided i wanted that one. I stopped him in my opening drew back and released, and I missed low. Not surprising I dont hunt that far, but he only backed up a foot or two and came right back to my opening. He was quartering to me hard so I picked a spot right on his shoulder and hit right where i was looking. The arrow went through every vital organ in him before catching a little gut ugh. He ran about 20 yards stopped, then 20 more and crashed in some briars. It wasnt untill I flipped him over that I knew it was a spike, had I known I probably wouldn't have shot but it is what it is. After shooting him 4 more does came by in the exact spot that they had. All in all a good hunt.
How he lay
