Sometimes I wonder! This mornings buck at 10 yards. Looked him over thru the brush before he came in the timber with me , looked narrow, so when he came in I snapped a few poor pics of him(need a better camera)
He looks like a fine mature deer, but just didn't trip my trigger. After he moved out of range, I saw the lil droptine and 2 more vertical stickers!! LOL

MAN, am I having fun tho!! :bigsmyl:
Send that "little one" down to SE LA. I'll take care of him for you! :)
Well if you know you have bigger bucks on the property that helps. I think this deer will be a real bruiser in a few. You can't shoot a big one if you shoot a little one. :readit:
:bigsmyl: :archer2:
Yes. Lol.
It may be nuts to some but your last sentence sums it up well. As long as you are having fun it's okay to be "nuts".
I've only got 8 days to hunt whitetails per year... I sure I would have 'let' him hold one of my arrows.
Well ... um ... yeah, you are nuts. I would have tried to take him.
Heck, if you were not feeling it, then good on ya for letting him walk. I jsut hope you are not like me ... I usually regret it when I let bucks walk because I rarely get another chance to see them again ... lots of pressure by me.
Here is hoping a better buck comes your way.
Bob.
Naw..he's too fat.
I would have missed him anyhow.
I've found that if you have to ask that question, then yes, you generally are nuts. Not for passing the deer though :)
I like those big, fat, bruiser deer like that one. they sure are hard to drag though.
I brightened the pic a lil, you can see the 2-3" drop ,looks like a lite spot on his left main beam(I think) :D
(http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/kennym/redone.jpg)
I must be nuts as well. Last year I would have shot the deer in the photo without a second thought. This year I have let a gang of four 8s that that size and perhaps even with better racks go past me a number of times. But then I do have a reason for it, they ain't does and none of them have that 26" wide rack I saw them following a couple of times.
I do not think the deer in the photo will grow all that much of a better rack than he has, I would guess that he is a fairly mature deer, judging by his body shape and size.
Nope, acting nuts is taking the shot when you don't really want to. Good job! :archer:
That buck should be thanking his lucky stars that he lives in your woods and not mine!!
That's certainly better than what we see around here.
Impressive bod thats for sure Kenny. He is definitely mature. You've got better ones. Good pass. Plus those big fat ones are harder for your wife to drag out.
Thats what I told Bro, he probably won't get much more bone.
And, Tom, wife has a strict "YOU KILL IT YOU CLEAN IT" policy. That includes gettin it home too. Bro's back is out, so might have had to quarter him up! :p
She don't mind cookin wild game, but the year we cut up 13 deer(not all mine) hasn't left her mind just yet.... :biglaugh:

Amen to that........ :saywhat: :saywhat:
Kenny, remember what you told me about holding on to those tags too tightly? Better start shootin. :nono:
I know, but I can't help myself. I need to seek professional help!! :D
Gettin ready to go sit another new stand, saw a bruiser across the creek from it last weekend..... :bigsmyl: :archer2:
This is a rhetorical question, right?
Killdeer
Desperately seeking fawns...
Perhaps one day someone will be glad you let him pass. That's two mighty fine backstraps walkin off! What's your guess 180- 190lbs.?
Don't worry Kenny there's always somebody crazier, I've already passed a few quite a bit bigger then him so your doing good. Big ol body and nice deer though hope I get to see him in a couple weeks.
Tracy
It's interesting how different areas produce such massively different animals. In alberta we wouldn't look twice at that deer but in other areas it 's truly a trophy, I've shot smaller deer but it was the last 5 minutes of the season and I thought there might not be enough time to get a better one :D
Yep. That would be considered a great trophy even for the antler hunters around here. Looks like he would fill I freezer pretty dang good.
You're a better man than I Gunga Din!!!!
From the perspective of hunting heavily pressured public land in north Texas, yes you're completely bonkers, but if you're having fun, that's all that really matters.
That buck should be thanking his lucky stars that he lives in your woods and not mine!!
I'll have to double amen that statement.
Well, yes, you probably are nuts, however, I resemble that remark. I've let some like that walk too. Let me tell you though, tag soup is kind of tasteless stuff, LOL!
He is OK I guess:) Hang in there Kenny, it's early yet..
Over the years I have had many regrets.. I don't believe any of them were for a deer I let walk.
Shook my head and wondered why on some, but in the end there has never been a regret..
Better things await you.
I would love to get a chance to miss a buck like that!
Keep having fun. And to answer your question...as we say around here " Crazy as a road lizard!"
LOL,No one ever said you had to shoot a deer just because you were hunting,Your enjoying the journey my friend and THATS what its all about.I've let many walk over the years.Just being in the vicinity and close enough you probably could have shot,at my age is good enough for me.Kudus to you my friend.
At my stage I just find Grouse so much easier to drag out!LOL

Sure wish we had some of those!
Kenny, no offense meant my friend, but i think you must have bumped your head on a low hanging limb on the walk in! :bigsmyl: That looks like a keeper to me!
All kidding aside, Good Luck! and hopefully the next buck will be the one youve been looking for.
Actually to me he looks like a mature Buck, just don't have the genetics for a bigger rack and/or he is on the downhill side.
Good to see I'm possibly not the only nutty one in the bunch!! LOL
Yep, he's old nuff, just ain't gonna be a jawdropper!!
Here is the update, had I shot him, I would have never seen the one that stayed out 50 yds tonite!!  :bigsmyl:
Nice body on him and the face is light also. You seem to get the monsters each year. He would have a hole if I see him.
Let us know when you get the big one.
NO NO your just fine. :banghead:
That deer is over 200 on the hoof for sure and maybe dressed. He's a hog. Tiny little antlers though. I would've shot him just to cure his inferiority complex.
John, that was my guess too, 225 to 250 on hoof, wish I'd weighed last years buck, bro and I could barely move him.
No "old" jokes either guys!
yes. . . . . :bigsmyl:
If you had questions, then you erred on the right side. Go chase him again if you change your mind.
ChuckC
Ahh Chuck, no questions, its just early and buck activity is just firing up. I'm bettin in Dec. he will look much better.... :D
YEP....U R NUTS!
His ENORMOUS BODY made his antlers look "small"!
OMG...OMG...OMG :D
You're nuts alright!!! Nuts about deer huntin. See you in a few days buddy!!
Can't wait Charlie!! Talked to Terry this AM, I think he is ready! :bigsmyl:
Cool pic!!
I always thought you might be slightly touched, deer or no deer. :D
Seeing how I haven't been offered a shot all season, yet, I would not have been asking myself that question. I have been thru enough pain and suffering...something must die.
A very nice buck, however it is totally your decision whether or not to take a shot.
Second guessing is only viable if this particular buck presents another shot opportunity. And then again, you make the same decision.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
Just to be clear, I'm not unhappy at all with my decision to not shoot! :D
Here is 2 bucks of the 4 I looked over tonite.
10 yards ..
And 40 yards..
Most fun I've had all year!! :goldtooth:
Kenny, sounds like they are beginning to move in the day time. Have you seen any of them chasing doe yet? Looks like you still have lots of leaves on the trees too.
Charlie, Terry and Tracy coming to the lease next week or week after?
Im a meat hunter but i pased a little 2 yo 8 pt last week just cause i know what his daddy looks like, Neighbor kid shot Dad opening week. His first buck (with a crosbow grrrr) so i know in a few years the buck will be huge. Gave me a perfect shot at 18 yards for about 20 min chewing on their corn pile... Just couldnt do it. So dont feel bad. But its hard for me not to shoot when i have the chance. cant eat horns...
David, they will be in late this week. Bucks are showing day lite now, saw 8 in 3 sits last weekend. :bigsmyl:
I would pass him up. But if it was the last day and fading light I would have taken him. I'm only saying this because there is bigger boys roaming where I hunt. Nutz
If you're passing up bucks like that, I can't wait to see what kind of deer your hunting grounds can produce! Three legs and a heartbeat's usually big enough for me! ;)
Yep, you are certified, LOL. Just kidding, to each his own. I let them walk if they do not have at least 20 spots.
Nice Deer. I know I would have shot!
