My favorite hat just died and i'm looking for a good fedora style/mountain man hat with a stiff brim. anyone know what kind of hat G. Fred wears?
Not sure of the brand, but 3Rivers has a couple cool ones like it...scroll down towards the bottom of this page.

I just bought a Cabelas Felt Outback Hat. Check out the pick on their web site. Hat is comfortable and does not interfere with my shooting.
Freds hat is a Stetson, I have a Banjo Paterson Akubra that I like and wear a lot.

I use a Scala wool felt outback hat. It's crushable and holds shape which is good for camping, comfortable, looks good, and was only $35 from Amazon.
thanks Ron, that's what i was looking for. love the Akubras too!
If you don't want to spend the money on a Akubra or Stetson (although I think they would be really nice to have and worth the money)...
I just bought a Bailey Briar and love it. For the money, it's a great hat.

I wear a Stetson Gun Club and could not be more pleased
The Stetson Dune is a great hat made of 4x beaver felt that will last years. They are not cheep but last long time
What style stetson is Fred's hat??? Anyone know? Where's Roger Norris, he'll know, or can find out.
The Dune is part of the Gun Club. great looking hat.

I have several of these. They are great for bow hunting. The brim stays put, but is soft enough to bend with the bow string. They never interfere with my shots. Highly recommend!
For a similar hat, but a change of pace, I bought a wool short brim hat off the auction site that as treated me real well. Its acceptable for nearly all weather conditions, besides winter beanie weather. and awesome in the rain. give it a search, theres an astounding number of hats out there.

Yep...that was my Senior yearbook picture :p
I'm a real hat wearing guy, but finding something you can still shoot well why wearing and keep the weather off to has been a challenge.
I looked for a good oil skin hat for years before running into this one. then i felt kinda foolish because i could have ordered one at Cabellas.
these are called "OutBack" and are perfect IMO.
light weight, keeps the rain off in nasty weather, water proof. And not too hot in warmer weather.
these guys have several different styles but this was my choice.
