I am currently using a hip quiver but I find it a bit cumbersome in the thick woods that I have been hunting so I bought a small 3 arrow bow quiver for my recurve. I have shot with it on but I assume that when I hunt a stand or from the ground I will take it off to shoot. What do you guys think? pros and cons?
I like shooting my bow with out a quiver, the best. With that said I always hunt with a quiver on my bow (recurve). Its just alot handier for me.
I shoot with my bow quiver on. Whether I'm in a stand or not. I, personally, just feel more comfortable with it there.
NO!
I use a GN quick mount quiver to carry my arows in and it comes off the bow once I am on stand.

I have hunted with my hip quiver and I always return to my bow quiver... it is so much easier to maneuver thru brush and it is faster for me to get a second shot....
I keep my on..
I love the added weight of a bow quiver. I have faster second shots on small game, and I feel that it helps with a 'consistent cant' if that makes sense.
When I use one I leave it on. A couple of my bows actually feel better with one--adds a little ballast.
I keep mine on all year long so nothing is different during the hunt. I also like the convenience of a bow quiver. I can grab a blunt or broad head without looking for the arrow I need because of repitition.
I very seldom shoot without one.

Ditto.
Only because it's too much trouble to take off.

X2..
I also shoot 3D with my bow quiver installed and with broadheads on those arrows too. I use a side quiver with target points on those arrows when shooting 3D.
I always have a quiver on my bow. Can't beat the convenience for arrow access, IMO.
I don't have a problem shooting with one, but prefer not to. I always take mine off when on stand.
I love having mine on, feels so much more stable.
Thanks for the comments!! I actually thought the bow was a bit more stable with the quiver and I like the way it shot. Looks like im leaving it on!! wooo hooo, now... Off to the woods!! maybe after some sleep first...
Shoot with it on, helps to balance out the bow IMO, making it easier to naturally cant the bow over.
That said, having the right quiver makes the difference; if it's too big or heavy it makes the bow awkward, so matching the quiver size to the bow makes a big difference IMO.
Nope. I like the way a bow feels without one. Its the way the bow was made. I understand the convience of them but for me I like a bare bow.
I thought they were the bees knees until I actually tried traipsing throught the woods with one. I thought it made the bow twist out of my grip while carrying it.
I got me a safari tuff arrowmaster and haven't looked back.
I use a side quiver, so the bow is free....
My bow shoots the same whether my quiver is on or off I've practiced enough both ways to make sure. I am more likely to take it off while sitting on stand to avoid flagging (all white fletching) and noise from the fletching rubbing on something. It's hard for me to be a statue.
Also, I will use an Arrowmaster on some of my hunts, my bow won't feel strange to me on those days if I normally have the bow quiver off.
I never liked a bow quiver, then I seen the eagles flight 3 arrow quiver and tried it. I love the way the bow shoots with it on, seems to make it more steady and balanced.

Nope....just dont like a quiver on my bow when I shoot. Might just be a habit.....but thats just me.
Yes....i hunt and shoot animals with bow quiver on.
Make sure you have it attached properly in the fade outs.
Lots of advantages to leaving it on.
I have been back and forth on this issue. I have settled on a EFA 4 arrow Apache that i leave on my bow all the time. Only problem so far is that I ran out of arrows on a Big Bull in New mexico. Shot under him 3 times in a wallow. Come to find out my string had streched a little and nock had moved up.More arrows may not have helped. :knothead:
I shoot most of the year without the quiver, I use a side quiver for 3D shoots. I strap on the Great Northern bow quiver about two weeks before the season to get used to the different feel.
I never shoot without my quiver. Shoot like you'll hunt.
Its an entirely personal thing...I practice with my bow set up both ways..the feel is different with the quiver on but I can shoot well either way. I like to have it on when I'm shooting a longbow...it just feels better
For hunting i always havea bow quiver on. I went on a caribou hunt with a back quiver and it was such a pain i switched to the bow quiver and never looked back.
I hunt and shoot with a bow quiver. I like mine a lot and I am shooting an older MAII Black Widow with a bow quiver bolted into inserts.
I carry 4 arrows in mine---3 broadheads and one blunt. I like a bow with a little weight to it, just feels more stable in my hands. But to each his own---
Joe
I don't like one on my bow. Yes it is more convenient to grab a second arrow, but then you are creating more movement for the critters to see with your fletching hanging out there waving arround.
Boomer.....that's what fletch covers are for. And the bow quiver with fletch cover along with the bow act as a blind breaking up your outline.
Again....most folks don't know about maximizing all the positives of a bow quiver. I've even rattled in a buck with one.
Yes for the quiver on,and yes for the fletching covers. Pretty close on this one. Almost 50/50. rat'
Depends on the bow. My BW has a kwikee quiver that comes off and attaches to my climbing stand. My vintage Bears that I mostly hunt with are shot with the vintage spring arm quivers installed.

I shoot better with one on. I guess I like more mass weight. Some times I'll remove it & use a catquiver to hunt from the ground.
I prefer it ever since I scrapped the fletching on my pants from arrows that where in a selway and the two deer spooked..
if I have to shoot with it on its a great northern because it keeps the fletch all tight together and out of the way,, selways and thundehorns spread the fletching apart which scares me..
so i walk in and walk out with the bow quiver on when using one of my bows that uses one, once at the stand it come off.
I shoot with mine on. I practice that way too.
Always on! It helps to add a little mass weight to my bow. Seems to help quiet down.
Steve
Im a spot and stalk or still hunt guy and have never hunted from a stand so I always shoot with a quiver on.
Stand hunter...but I prefer quiver on bow. Just more convenient for me and like a little extra weight.
I have found that I like the way my bows shoot with a quiver attached, they are more stable, and having a second arrow handy is somtimes a good thing. If you find a side or back quiver cumbersome you should take a look at the Kanati Dual Arc! It was designed to be adjustable to get it just the way you want it on your bow, or for those who like to take it off when they get to the tree it comes off and on easily and has a handy tree hanger. Check them out @ www.kanatiquiver.com (http://www.kanatiquiver.com)
I do both depending on the situation or type of stand/ground blind Im hunting , I pratice both ways through out the year .
Mine is a Kanati, and it stays on. I like the extra weight, and there is one less thing for me to forget in the jeep.
I put one one in August and leave it until after the season.
I shoot and hunt with mine on, it never comes off.
Shoot and hunt with it on. If I wanted to take it off at the stand, I would not be using a bow quiver. There are many different choices to carry arrows that way. I use arrows fletched with brown, red or yellow barred feathers with white spliced in at the rear of the feather. This allows me to see the arrow flight but does not provide enough fletching to flag while on stand.
I was unaware of the fact that you could shoot a bow without a quiver on it...lol Mine never comes off I like the weight it gives for stability
I have used them for so long, I can't imagine a bow without a bow quiver on it. Have a hip quiver but have never used it.
Good thread....I'd also like to add that at times I use a back quiver, and times I use an Arrow Master, and times I take my bow quiver off in a tree stand....all just depends on the scenario. It shouldn't be one VS the other.
They are all just tools used to carry our arrows and some tools work better than others. I use a bow quiver brobably 90% of the time for several reasons. And again, there are ways to maximize them and many advantages.
Also, we are very fortunate to have so many options today with an array of choices to fine tune these tools to the max for the said purpose.
I did an article once for a major mag talking about the advantages of the bow quiver and how to make the most of it. Others did back quivers, back pack quivers, side quivers etc.... All of them have advantages for different uses and different styles of hunting. And sometime is just comes down to personal preference and what some folks are just use to.
Again...great thread........ :campfire:
My G.N. is always on the bow.
I used to have a back quiver, but now have a Kanati and love the extra mass and the silence it has brought with it. I think I will be sticking with it.
I keep one arrow on my bow in a Skookum single quiver - or a Jack Bowyers "Single Stalker" broadhead sheath & 1/2 Selway Piggybacker version of the same. The rest of my broadheads and blunts are in a side quiver.

I like my bow, quiver and arrows to be one solid unit for hunting.I dont take it off ever till the seasons over.
I do shoot my bows without the quiver attached alot when its not hunting season
I've always used a bow quiver going back to when I started in 83 on both recurves and compounds. I have an older limb bolt Sagitarrius 8 arrow quiver on my Brack and a Selway slide on 4 arrow on my Wallace. I'm having another Wallace made up and I think I'll go with the Selway limb bolt design this time.
Like Terry, I use both bow quivers and a back quiver depending on the situation. I have a limb bolt Selway that I use on my Orion for tree stand hunting. It gives me one less thing to have to hang somewhere. I have an EFA quiver that I use on my longbows when I use a bow quiver on them because it is light enough to have little effect on the balance. I like my back quiver for the ground blind because with short bows my nocks are constantly in the dirt if I set the bow down. I also like it with my longbows to keep them light and agile.
There is really no wrong answer.
I have always shot with mine on.The weight is better and prefer the conveinece of it.
I use a back quiver only when stumping or small gaming with my LB.
Put it on to walk to the stand and then take it off once I am there. Maybe an old habit from the Compound.
Nope, not anymore. Used to use a bow quiver which I kept on all the time. I have switched to using an Arrow Master and do not have any complaints. I love that thing.
I use an eagle 4 Arrow Bow Quiver. Its so light, I have No Problem Shooting with it on.
Always on for me.....
,,Sam,,
When hunting high mountain or windy areas I found a bow mounted quiver reacted to the wind .
Cheers from the country that everthing except the Stanley Cup .......
