Title: Foam/Rubber Style Arrow Holder DIY?
Post by: cloudbaseracer on October 07, 2012, 12:55:00 AM
Hey Guys,

I am looking for something like the old rubber type arrow holders that would connect on the back side of the riser. They were very simple and would spring straight back and out of the way. I believe these are no longer made but would love to know if anyone has an idea where I could get one?  I was able to find 2 unopened but dusty Bohning arrow holders the other day at a local sporting goods store but once I did open them they crumbled from their old age. So disappointing.

I am not interested in drilling a hole in my bow to attach a pin like some have done.  That seems like a great system but just not for me. I have also seen the version that straps on with the brass type rod but that looks a little bigger than I want.

Has anyone ever carved there own out of some type of foam?  If so, what type of foam did you use?

Thanks,

James

Roy,

Thanks, I have seen those before but the one I remember is different.  I seem to remember them having just a single piece of rubber about the size of a Q-tip shaft that was attached to a crescent shaped rubber section that the arrow slipped into.

Perhaps I dreamed it all?

I use one of these arrow holders on my BW recurve and really like it.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has made their own.

Roy,
You didn't dream that one. I have used them as well. I think they were called "Stay Jack"?  A narrow rubber arm with the near-circle rubber with a slot to accept your arrow. The rubber arm encased a spring.  The ones I recall though required an accessory hole to affix to the back of the sight window?  Surely that made a "stick-on" model.

I use the Kwikee that 3Rivers has (link above) and like it just fine.  I won't drill holes in my bows either.

Jake,

If you find that one I would love to have it if you can pick it up for me?

Cheers,

James

Here's a homemade option that is quick, easy, and no holes.
A piece of high density foam(flip flop shoes?)(foam pad for work shop floor. Even better is a chunk of rubber-drill a hole for the pin.  a cotter pin, double back tape or contact cement, rubber band.
Bend another loop into the cotter pin as in the picture, insert rubber band, stick onto bow. You can put a bit of tape over it if you like.
Wrap the rubber band around arrow and back onto cotter pin.

Used Stay-jack for years, until a very cold day where the rubber would not release an arrow as I drew on a PY deer.  The Kwik holder is much simpler and better.
