I've always used a 4 inch fletch but a buddy of mine shoots a 5.5 inch fletching on his arrows. If I were to move up to a 5 inch fletching is there much difference? If so what could I expect? Thanks guys
I love the 5.5 para hi profile feathers. it takes away all flight worries away for me. I just dont have time to worry about tunning bows all the time.
Lots of the guys here like them for looks, I find the 4 inch fletch quieter than the 5.5s as the latter tends to make more noise in flight. (which if I can hear it it must sound like a freight train to a deer) :archer2:
Thanks for the responses guys. I'm tuned with 4 inch and I was just curious as to what may happen if I switched.
ooops should have made it more clear, I do tune just not as much now. every bow has to be set up and adjusted. i just never was into the bareshaft thing much. its funny but i never have heard much noise out of my arrows much, maybe its the wieght i shoot they are really heavy.
I used to shoot 3 X 5.5" bananas. Then 3 X 5" parabolics. Then went to 4 X 4" shield cut. Now, this year my four fletch is down to 3.5" and my hunting arrows are shooting better than ever.
Matt, should stiffen your arrow a bit, recheck your tune. Also will slow flight more at further distances. Usually higher profile = more noise in flight.
I have also considered going to smaller fletch. Have shot 5.5 high back shields for a long time. My burn is a lower profile and they fly fine. Look at some if the old timers feather choices. Most are pretty low profiled compared to today
Double post sorry
