I have two Maddog bows and was thinking about changing from the B-50 flemish string to a more modern string to increase the overall arrow speed without increasing poundage. The bows are a LB, 67' 47 @28 and a 54" recurve 45 @ 28. Mike said that the bows would be ok , he put overlays on the tips. Thanks
I use sbd strings on all my Maddogs. The strings work great for me. A warning though, you'll have to increase the spine of your arrows !!
What is sbd? I shoot a 30" 5575 w/225gr, 4" fletch and they fly great.
Silent But Deadly. He is a sponsor here. I make my own strings so I don't know first hand, but I've heard nothing but good about SBD strings.
I'd go with a modern string as long as the bows are made to handle it. I have found nothing negative about them. I use D97 myself, but there are many good string materials available. The only thing I use B50 for is padding loops and tying on string silencers.
Unless the strings you are using are pretty poorly made, don't expect any massive gains just from swapping strings. 5-10 fps would be top end for most bows.
Material-wise, I'd go with 8190, 8125, or Dynaflight '97.
