Hey guys. I shoot a 65pound Bear Kodiak. I shoot a heavy 750gr. carbon arrow. Im thinking about next year after this season trying wood. Who makes the straightest ones and do they make a heavy shaft? I like HEAVY. Should i shoot tapered or straight shafts. What spine would i need, I pull 29in. Sorry for all the questions. I just like starting out on the right way. Thanks for any help!!
Check with "SNAG" you wont be sorry.
Who is Snag? Does he build arrows?
Snag is a sponsor here. He runs Wilderness Custom Arrows. People say good things about his arrows. He uses doug fir shafts from Surewood, which are very straight, tough, and run about 500 grains (depending on spine).
I have no idea what spine you should use. I shoot a 56# bow drawn to 29", but I need a 100# shaft to get good flight with a 160grn head. Do yourself a favor and get a test kit before you order arrows.
Thanks, I'll check with wilderness
Another thumbs up for "Snag" he's very helpful and will steer you in the right direction.
Might want to talk to Magnus, also. He's a sponsor here and makes fantastic wooden arrows. He has several different species of wood he can build your arrows from, doug fir, poplar, and a few more.
Cannot go wrong with Snag
Fletcher (The Feathered Shaft), Magnus (Turkey Flight Traditional), or Snag (Wilderness Custom Arrows). Any of the 3 and you won't go wrong. All are exceptional people and all do high quality and custom work.
If you are looking for shafts can't do any better than Surewood Fir. Probably gonna need a 90-95 spine if you are shooting a ff string. You'll love them God Bless
Hey Guys thanks for the help! I should've said i want to get the shafts and do them myself. But i don't know the procedures. I started out with autumn orange xx75 and gamegetters Never even been around a wood arrow. Ive shot bows for 30 yrs just not traditional. Thanks again!
Buy direct from surewood, I think you can request heavy shafts.
