I'm going to be building a bow rack soon. I currently have one longbow. My wife and I will both want to use it. Eventually I may wind up with two bows and the wife with two bows tops. I'd like the bow rack to hold up to 4 bows and 24 arrows.
What do you use for your bow storage? I'm just looking for ideas. I've already done a google search but figured I may get a couple more here.
Thanks for the help
I just used some scrap wood and nails covered in electrical tap for my rack, it holds 5 bows right now. I routed the edges and stained it. Only took half an hour to slap together. I made a real nice one for my dad with a nice design burned across the top and some wooden pegs to rest the bows on. Here's a pic of my simple one. I'll have to see if I can find a pic of the one I built for my dad.

Just a warning- I used minspar satin poly on the wooden pegs and they had a reaction to the finish on one of my dads bows. They were fully cured and I was surprised this happened, but I guess you never really know. The electric tape covered nails may not look as great but they get the job done and there's no worry of it affecting the finish.

I've never thought of this. Sorry to hear that your bow got damaged. I'll either use antler or line the shelves/pegs with some felt to protect the bows.
I've found that the screw in brackets that Wallyworld sells for hanging up bicycles works real good. They're rubber coated and pretty cheap. Find where your studs are and screw 'em in 32" apart, that oughtta match your studs. You can fit at least 2 bows on each bracket set.

I have stained it a bit darker since then but this is the best pic I could find.
I just realized this pic may be 2 yrs. old and I only have 2 of the bows pictured. Funny how things change. :archer:

uber easy to build, uses discarded arrows. Works great for longbows.
Hey far rider, I've seen some holders sold similar to what you built, well, similar with how the bow is held. What's holding it up? is the bottom of the bow sitting on something? I'm mainly wondering about the top shares the bow is actually held. Are the bows suspended?

Here are a couple of mine.

The bows are all suspended on an arrow laced between the string and belly. I keep the string on the bottom nock of the bow, so that is really what holds the bows up. In the picture, the arrows have field points on them, but I have since removed the tips so it is just a tapered end of the arrow (no scratches). I came up with this one on my own, but I'm sure others guys can make it. Pretty simple, but works great for Hill style bows.

Look close and you can see the arrow goes between the bow ans string. I do the same with pegs. I made mine out of bronze door hinge pins with a piece of rubber tubing slid over them. Drilled holes in a maple board and epoxied the pins in.
Here's a close up of how the bows hang.

Whoops sorry,we were typing at the same time. ;)
Ahhhhh...thanks for the close up Goshawskin, that makes sense now! I've been thinking of changing my holder as my collection grows to hold more bows in less space.
Your closeup is better! Explains it better than I could say.
I made this one out of scraps, and have since bought a nice piece of figured maple to make another one. The one above will hold 12-16 Hill style longbows because of the straight thin limbs. I'm a Hill guy, so I designed it primarily for that purpose.
Tim
Nothing special, but it works.

My Dad made this for me last year. I like it. It is perfect for my longbows, but maybe a tic wide for my recurve.

This was actually a pic for a bow trade, but you can see the construction of the rack pretty well in it.

Few of my racks.
I never get tired of seeing all your bows,Cacciatore Impressive collection.
Wow Cacciatore, great collection!
Man o man.....I wish I was that neat!!!!!!!
Cacciatore, thats quite a collection.
I'm thinking of trying to make a 4-bow rack that will display 12 arrows, have a drawer for gadgets, and have coat pegs underneath for quivers.

I have 6 bows and my wife thinks I have a sickness. I showed her these pics and now I don't look so bad. Thanks fellas! :notworthy:
Darned, Bjorn and Feliciano, now I don't dare to show my humble bowrack anymore...
Mine is a 30 years long love and dedication to the sport. Thanks for the kind words, more pics to come.
O my gosh, now those are some bow racks!
This confirms that bows do grow on trees.

Ron,
Do you mind sending me a couple bow tree seeds? I'd promise to water them and take good care of them.
That's great Ron! :clapper:
Here's one I made several years ago real inexpensive. Only holds 12 arrows though. I have plans if any one wants them. Mike

Here's one my boys and I made last year.
This one used to be a R/C model airplane rack for wings and fuselages.

That is what I call a real man's cave!
Don't seem to have one where its full of bows ... I think the rack holds ten, I have another hanging style rack with 6, both full, a couple projects in the works, and a couple piled in the closet. I apologize to all you glass guys, these are all wood bows ... all but 2 York Thunderbolt recurves 1969 and 1972 I think.

Nothing fancy, just a couple of Kodiak Magnums (Woody and Forrest) and a bunch of Magnum .308s.

Here's mine... Many of the bows have found new homes and been replaced by others :goldtooth:
But that's what keeps the economy growing right!

Roger that!
Felix, the way your bows are organized and displayed is museum worthy. Nicely done!
:campfire:
Older picture. Some of the bows have changed. Sold one of the Slammers for a Silvertip. Several bows are family made.
