Title: "Good Luck" garment?
Post by: olddogrib on October 04, 2012, 06:38:00 AM
The clothes questions always seem to increase around this time of year. Let me preface this by saying that I have little faith in one camo pattern over another bagging anything but hunter's dollars.  I put no stock in luck over preparedness either.  I will confess a profound sentimental attachment to a pair of 32"x32" army surplus woodland camo pants that I've been wearing longer than alot of folks on this site have been alive.  I've probably taken over 75% of the deer I've killed in those pants (me, not the deer, bless you Groucho, that dates me too)!  It's purely good memories of hunts long past that make me pull on those pants when I've got newer, nicer, more high tech stuff. I'm blessed that my waistline hasn't exceeded their tolerance, as the cinch tabs have long since come off in the wash. Buttons are missing and they're getting a bit tattered, but I don't mend them, because this gives them a certain "panache".  They're so faded they would do reasonably well as snow camo, except for the blood stains that get refreshed from season to season. Bowhunting is a mental game and wearing something that inspires confidence can't be all bad. (they've already come through this year) What's your "good luck" garment?

I have an a merino wool stocking cap I bought about 35 years ago.  It's almost always on my head when I bow hunt.  Lots of other times as well.  Starting to show its age, but so am I.

My lucky item is a North Carolina camo baseball hat. My kids bought that for me while on vacation with their grandma. I have worn it every time I killed a big game animal. It won't work when the cold set in though.....     :(

God Bless,
Charlie

Mine is my desert camo Boonie cap from the service,  it kept me safe for 3 tours, and now it puts food on the table

I have a no name, funny looking, stretched out wool hat. Have in for about 25-28 years. wear it when the temps really drop.

I've got more darn "Good Luck" charms than I can carry... LMAO

As far as "clothing" goes..... I would say it would have to be my "stupid looking red&black plaid wool hunting hat!!! The darn thing has got to be over 20 years old!!!!! I'm sure that Kenny (adkmountainken) has a pictue somewhere...

Also, I have a brown&black plaid Woolrich shirt that I bought about 3 years ago. I've become VERY fond of that shirt.....

This old Fred Bear camo coat has lots of deer seasons in it from the late 60s. Unfortunately it's getting a little "snug". I can still get into it but not with heavy clothing underneath.

I have a black wool cap with fox fur around the edge.  I look rediculous.  However, I feel naked without it.  I have so many marvelous memories in the timber when I wore that thing.  I have shot a LOT of deer wearing it.  I think if I stopped wearing it, it would never forgive me, plus it jsut has way too much mojo to risk not wearing it.

Bob.

My blue plaid camo jacket is either used as an outergarment or an inner liner for a heavier jacket, but it's always there.

I got it at the thrift store for $2, and the left cuff is missing a button, but a zip tie has worked wonders to hold it together.

Well I HAD a NWTF camo hat that ive killed just about everything while wearing. I would still have it if i hadnt set it down in a thicket and walked away from it. I'm still trying to replace it haha. Maybe the hat Tom Miranda gave me when I was 5 will do the trick...

I've got a soft plaid flannel shirt that I bought while on my first date with my wife.  It's my all time favorite shirt, and it's still looking good after 17 years.  I take extra special care of it, and her too.

Mine is a Winona Camo hat that my wife hates. It has been with me on 95% of my kills. Probably 25 years old.

Mike, you should have used your old line "What do you want for that $10 coat?"

I don't have any particular clothes I can think of but I have an old 95 F150 I bought in 99 and that thing has more blood in the bed than any rig I've ever owned.  When I'm getting skunked I leave my big Dodge Cummins at home and take the beater and more than once it's come home with meat in the back.
