Im looking to order a 21" riser and some limbs to make a solid hunting platform. I was looking at getting a Buffalo or a Dorado ... but I think I can make a sweet setup from the excel platform. I am looking for a bow under 62" and around 52-55 lbs @ 28". What limbs will work. I am wanting to do this for a reasonable cost ... who has best prices? Thanks!!!

any limb med. or shorts 45 to 50 lbs.will make a 62 or 60 inch bow,51 to 56 lbs.
what do you guys suggest for shooting of the shelf of this riser since it has no radius to it and is not center shot?
Built mine out with the thick padding they sell for table legs so they don't scratch the floor. It's self adhesive and worked fine on My Excel riser.

I glued a leather disc on a 5/16-24 bolt, then screwed it into the plunger hole. This gives you a bit of adjustment left and right. Nut on back to lock in place, glued a small pc. of thick leather on the shelf and covered it in velcro......works excellent!
I honestly would just use a hoyt pro hunter stick on rest. Probably the best $4 investment I put on my metal riser ilf hunting bow. SO easy to tune and I arrows flying like darts. No issues with canting, or the arrow falling off. I can shoot in any position. I don't use a plunger either. It's just stupid simple and cheap.
It's cut past center so you'll need to build out your strike plate with leather or a matchstick or something too.
My hunting bow is a 21 inch Excel in blackout color with a med length set of TT glass/wood limbs. The med limbs makes a 64 inch bow on the 21 inch Excel. Short length limbs will make a 62 inch bow. I use a NAP centerest flipper on my Excel. A bulletproof rest that you can install and forget about while hunting. The Excel is an ILF target riser designed to shoot an elevated rest, but I've seen that some Excel owners use the little felt furniture pads to shoot it off the shelf succesfully.
Prices? Look in the classifieds, there's always some good deals in there on ILF limbs and sometimes even an Excel riser.

Pretty well sums it up, shorts are your only option to keep it at 62". You'll want to pay attention to limb rating as some are rated on 25" risers, some 17", and even some on 19"! For most ilf, you want to consider weight gain on thr 21" riser, about a pound per inch, as well as preload on the riser.

I think TT mediums in wood/glass or wood/carbon would be your best option for a good limb and reasonable cost.64 inch bow.longer than you want.But it would be nice shooting.Shorts may work depending on your draw length.
I like a plush rug rest and something under it like a toothpick or piece of leather or whatever to shoot off the flat shelf.Put the toothpick at the deep part of the grip.I usually use a piece of thick leather cut in a rectangular shape and put the stick on rugrest on top of it.A stick on feather rest also works very well put on a flat rest.Like you see on classic Bear bows.
If you have a pro shop in your area that handles Hoyt bows, they may be able to order one for you at a decent price. I got my Excel riser from a pro shop and my T/T med wood/glass limbs on line for 315 dollars total.I also had to buy a string. For a rest I used a NAP plunger rest that I had on hand. The other rests mentioned wil also work fine. It's a very nice bow to shoot...........DaveP
