Just picked up my new toy from Steve Tallant at the post office. He made me one of his new Frontier 66 string follow bows. I had him put fiddleback myrtle on the belly with a rosewood riser and bamboo cores. The carbon back was spray painted flatblack before the finish was sprayed on. String follow bows are awesome shooters!! Steve makes a great bow, at a good price, in a short period of time-ordered July 28, received October 3 (just a shade over 2 months!!!).

Yep, looks like a shooter to me.
Steve belongs to the best and that string follow longbow you have sure is a beauty! Congrats! I bet she shoots like crazy. I once had the pleasure to shoot the Tallon Static Tip and what a great shooter that was!

That is a sweet heart of a bow Phil! :clapper: :clapper:
Is that some of the same myrtle wood you sent me Steve? If so it looks a LOT different under glass.
Could you give us a few more photos of the belly veneers Phil? I've heard about this bow while it was being built and been dying to see photos of it... Kirk
Here you go, Kirk.

I like it!
very nice - steve is very skilled!
Phil, I didn't even knowyou got your bow until late today. Two days ago my computer refused to load windows. We could not find a thing wrong but it just wouldnot open up. Marcy workedonit until thisafternoon and finally gave upand downloaded the entire computer and reloaded it. Brandnew computer too .
Its great tosee you got yourbow and like it. Looks like it shoots pretty good for you too/
Kirk that is the same myrtle I bought several huge slabs of it. Ron, the mill owner told me that in 35 yers or so he has only see a couple of trees like this. He called it black myrtle. Some of it is black and also yellow and very striking. It makes a very classy looking limb and the pics really and truly do not show it off good enough/
Not too many bows that I have a hard time parting with./ This one really grabbed me.
God bless you all, Steve
What is a "string follow bow"? thanks, just a recurve shooter myself.
Well i just cut up the last of those huge myrtle wood slabs i got in Roseburg a couple years ago and 95 percent of it went into my wood stove box.
All of it was full of rot and punk. it just sat out in that guys shed too long i guess, or it was rotten when he slabbed it.
thanks for the photos Phil.
He is maticulious on his craftsmanship no doubt. And that handle forward riser really lends to a grip more accustomed to a recurve, which I sincerely like. I would venture to say without ever shooting or seeing one in person it is the tamest, well mannered string follow bow made. And I really like the looks of those woods as well. Congrats on a fine looking, great shooting, and perfectly crafted bow. God Bless
Phil can comment on the shootability and manners of the bow better than I can although I have shot it a bit. I cannot tell the difference in shock from my other bows though. It really seems quick, responsive and very quiet to me.
God bless you all, Steve
I can't give much of a report because I typically don't change bows mid-season unless it's a necessity, so until I get a couple more deer in the freezer, I won't be shooting it much until February.
My Frontier 66 is likely the quietest bow I've ever shot. I hadn't noticed there were no silencers on it until I looked on the string to see how Steve had located them. The bow is light in the hand, smooth to draw, and a pleasure to shoot, very little shock (all bows have some). I've only shot a couple dozen arrows, 65-70 chundoo with 160 gr points (that's what I happened to have handy), and it handled them nicely-didn't try any other spine, though. Call me old fashioned, nostalgic, or whatever, but I only shoot wood from longbows, at least 12 gpp.
I really like the lines in this one piece longbow. If i made a one piece it would look very much like this bow of Steve's.I think he has a very good design in this one piece longbow.Im sure it shoots as well as it looks and very forgiving.Very good job Steve, i think you hsve a real winner!
Mike
Since the woods have sprouted pumpkins, I went out and played with new bow this morning. I tried several different spined arrows and found that 55-60, 60-65, 65-70 all seem to shoot about the same, with field points. I also tried pine, chundoo, ash, ramin, and laminated birch shafts. As one would expect, the lighter shafts (right at 600 gr)-pine and chundoo-were spot on out to about 25 yards and the heavier shafts (all about 750 gr) were fine out to about 20 yards, then they dropped, fast. Also, as one would expect, the heavier shafts made the bow virtually silent, some noise with the lighter shafts, but I haven't intsalled string silencers yet. I shot the bow standing, kneeling, on both knees with my butt on my feet with no problems whatsoever-the closer to the ground, the more the cant. The bow draws and shoots smoothly out to 29" (that's the longest arrow I had). The grip makes for consistent hand placement and is very comfortable.
I went stump shooting in my woods. The 66" length was not a problem. I walked up on a couple of fawns that have been hanging around all summer, didn't see mom (no, they're not pets, they run if they see you). I shot 2 judo point tipped arrows and neither deer looked up from their acorns 30 yards away-that's quiet.
What is a "string follow bow"? thanks
Bill, go to this topic ....http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=121424
Sweet looking bow. Would love to see one with a straight grip. Loveforward handle straight ends. beautiful design sir
Thanks Shawn, I can make the grip just about any style anyone wishes. This is my standard here. However this is fit to Phils handprint.
I am building one for a gentleman right now that is a two piece with this grip.
God bless, Steve
Nice bow!
Congrats on your new toy.
Bisch
Very handsome bow sir.
I like the design of that bow. To bad it doesn't come in a 58 or 60" length, I might be tempted to break my spending rule.
I could probably arrange to build the Frontier in different lengths. It would have pleanty of working limb length to do so.
God bless, Steve
