Anybody use the hunterseat that BigJim sells? If so how do you like it.
I haven't bought one yet, but have been really thinking about it. My friend has one that he uses when hunting deer. He really likes it. I sat on it at camp and it seems like a good idea. It works on any tree, in any location and on steep slopes. Not to mention that it can serve as a walking stick. It only weighs 4 pounds which is nice. It also requires zero set up time.
After rereading the 1st part of my post, I didn't mean to sound like a commercial for the product. I have limited experience with it, but it seems good to me. Once I get my ghillie suit completed, I will be a little more serious about buying one. I think for our bow hunting purposes the ghillie plus this seat would be wicked!
Good luck and God bless,
Charlie
I'm interested as well.
I have a hunterseat that I bought from the website. If it is the same one(I'm too lazy to check BigJim's) I REALLY like it. A small amount of padding added and it is good to go. Simple, stable, it just works!
I bought one last year on sale at Summit. I've used it on a hog hunt in SC and just the other day here in PA for deer.
Advantages: Extremely simple to use, just lean it against almost anything, takes a second to set up. Easy to carry either in hand or with the carry strap. Dead quiet with no moving parts or popping bark from seats and ropes settling in. Very easy to shoot while seated and standing up is zero effort unlike some other seats.
Disadvantages: Small firm padded seat that limits sitting duration (I added more padding with several rubber bands). I stand occasionally anyway so it's not a big deal. At 4lbs it's not all that heavy, but I wouldn't want to carry one on an all day hunt. I've been thinking of making one out of aluminum at work, just haven't got around to it yet.
You should see my collection of seats hanging on my garage wall. All have pros and cons. The treeseat is simple, quick, quiet, and user friendly. Not perfect, but pretty close.
