Title: It just adds to the experience
Post by: moleman on October 01, 2012, 09:01:00 PM
Our season opener was today, but responsibility took the the place of hunting for me until Fri.,but in the interim ive been taking care of loose ends in prep. for the hunt.
While fine tuning broadheads, fletching a couple shafts, conditioning the old quiver that i made many yrs ago, waxing strings that i have made, cutting yarn and replacing worn string silencers, ETC i found that preparing for the hunt and using some of the gear that you have crafted yourself, just adds to the whole experience.
Pretty much any product or service can be purchased, but the joy of using just a couple of self crafted items, just adds to  the experience.

I couldn't agree more moleman.  I love making and maintaining what I can and then using it.  Another thing that gives me great pleasure is using the things that have been handed down to me like the Maine Hunting Shoes handed down from my Grandfather.  Just sitting down and conditioning the leather like he showed me brings back fond memories- it's like a piece of him is out there with me on the hunt.
