Title: Bow Refinishing
Post by: trapperDave on August 11, 2007, 03:35:00 PM
I have an old Pearson that's been to Heck and back and I'm going to redo her. Any advice on whats best to use? what should I use on the limbs(fiberglass laminated) and wood to bring back the shine and life? Is it ok to sand the limbs to remove old varnish? I guess a step by step guide would be best if ya know of one. Bow has lots of surface wear to the finish but no cracks or gouges etc. Thanks.

Hi,

Use the search: Refurbished Ben Pearson Mustang, and you will find a post dated Februari 23 about the refurbish job.

I have used spray on poly, it looks great...until I had sunblock on my hand when I was bowfishing.  The finish got sticky.
From now on, it's Fullerplast for me.

You need to sand everything in order to get a professional finish. However any logos or writing you need to be careful.    On the wood I would seal it.  I use Fedeors sealer great stuff.     Then spray with Fuller Plast, Sherwin Williams catalyst varnish, or Thunderbird.
