Wow, what a week! After umpteen years of bowhunting I finally killed a turkey last Sunday; the second day of Missouri's season. Today, only a week in, I killed my second turkey with a bow. I should probably go buy a lottery ticket!

Last night I fried up the breast of the first bird and served it up with mashed taters, gravy, brocolli, and homemade biscuits. You ain't gonna get much better vittles than that!

Missouri's fall firearms turkey season starts on October 1st so I guess I could try to get two more birds in that season with my bow. But I just had a new flintlock 12 bore made that is just begging to be broken in then so I'll probably use it. But you never know....

Southern Missouri has been blessed with an exceptional spring turkey hatch which is one of the very few good things to come out of our drought. Because of living in a "target-rich" environment, it was statistically probable for me to kill a bird with a bow. Oh yeah, and luck had a large part to do with it too.
Darren
PS. Kenny, you can come to Greene or Shannon county and I can loan you a couple turkeys.
:clapper: Congratulations! :clapper:

Probably the main reason I have never bow-killed a turkey before now is that I generally don't hunt for them. And the main reason I don't hunt for them is because I have had too many folks tell me that to better my chance of success I needed to hunt in a blind - I hate hunting in blinds!
However...I wasn't seeing any deer in my little patch of woods this year but I was seeing a herd of turkeys. So I broke down, put up a pop-up blind, and presto - killed two birds in a week. Everything I've heard is true, turkeys pay no attention to blinds. I had birds all around me and my shot distance on both hens was 10 yards at the most.
The bow I used is a two-piece takedown Thunderstick Mag. I made the arrows out of ash and tipped them with 200 grain Ace Super Express broadheads.

Now that looks like some good eating! Way to go sir!
