Title: Stuffing Aluminum Arrows for Weight
Post by: False Cast on September 21, 2012, 06:03:00 PM
I tried the search function and didn't find anything definitive so I thought I'd ask you members. As the title says, has anybody had any good results filling aluminum arrows for additional weight?

I've heard about weed trimmer rope, spray foam, packing-type foam, etc. I don't want anything to rattle around in my arrows but if I could get another 100 grains of weight in my 27.5" 2016's (without spending much money) it would be great! I've seen the weight rod setups but they're all sized for carbon.

If I end up having to purchase new arrows or something, so be it, but I thought I would present this question to the brain trust here before I dropped any cash.

Thanks in advance!

I used packing peanuts one year... was using 2213 and not happy with the weight... a packing peanut weighs about 5 grains... take a thin dowl rod and roll them up and slide them in... 20 and you have your 100 grains...

Looks funny when the arrow breaks though... LOL

The weight tubes at 3 rivers will fit your 2016's. I use them in my 1916's, I'll pinch them in about 4 to 5 different places but running opposite of each other. Then I use a little goat tuff glue on every pinch point as well as the first end going in. I've had only one arrow rattle after hundreds of shots. I use the 3 gr per inch, it didn't affect the spine that I could tell. Read the questions on there web site, it should tell you what size to get.

Thanks everyone.

What size aquarium tubing would be best for my arrows and what do you do to keep the tubing from rattling?

I have used braided nylon rope with great results burn one end closed and use a wire to push it into the shaft no rattle or movement it even quiets the arrow similar to a woodie

3 rivers sells weight tubes and brass inserts.

You might also ask this in the Dangerous game forum, it has been discussed there several times.

Better just to put the weight into the point.   I use 200 grn points and broad heads.  Reduced my feather size in half too.
