First post, but I've been enjoying everyone else's posts for quite some time now.
I went to Mike Shaw to get set up for Eastern PA archery season. We got talking about Fred Bear recurve bows, he asked me if I collect them and I responded emphatically, "No, I'm a shooter". He then asked me how many bows I have and I answered somewhat sheepishly (because I knew where he was heading with this line of questioning) some number in the teens. He looked at me and said matter of factly, "if you have more than two, you are a collector". For some reason that was a tough pill to swallow for me, I guess cause I consider each bow in my "collection" necessary... and I shoot them all- just not at once.
Anyway, Mike is a great guy, extremely knowledgeable and a true craftsman.
Thanks for listening,

I'm with you. Three years ago I had two trad bows. I'm sitting in my living room and just counted eight sitting here in eyesight.
A long PVC tube arrived in the mail just today, as a matter of fact.
Welcome to TradGang and the addiction.

Nothing wrong with being a collector. I'm a shooter, but if I had the money, I would order bows by the boxcar load. I have 21 bows, so I guess I also qualify as a small time collector.
After counting 42 on the rack my wife said that ive passed collector and moved on to hoarder. Havent spent big bucks though, a lot of them have come from garage sales and flea markets where they were purchased for far, far less than there worth.
Mike and Sue are the best and they both can shoot too! Hint, don't bet Sue.
I don't think I have a problem.....I've only got....ohh wait...LOL
Ken
Mike and Sue are great folks!
Don't feel bad about being labeled a "collector".
And like Richard says.....don't shoot against Sue for $$$!
I can swim in my bows.
Am I a collector?
I dunno, but I'm one happy s.o.b.!
You couldn't have gone to a better bunch of folks!!!
I know how to fix your problem ;)

Welcome to Trad Gang!! Great first post for sure.
Mike and Sue are two of the absolute best. You won't run into two finer!!!!
I'm at the opposite end.
Three years ago, I had two take down recurve bows, both Blacktails. Fast forward to today and I've still got two take down recurve bows, the same two Blacktails.
Tom, Welcome to the Gang my friend. Folks, Tom and family are true traditional folks and my kind of customers.

I need to quit getting bows. I just keep seeing new bows popping up and love some of the stuff out there. I don't think there is a cure. A guy can do o.k. buying/trading/selling used. You try that with new bows, your going to take a hit in the wallet. I saw a GORGEOUS Black Widow PLX 2 piece at The Compton Event this spring that I wish I would'nt have. Osage/Copperhead skinned with a Brownish orangish beavertail grip on it. MAN!! I would love that bow. But Toby told me it would set me back $1700 beans, and that was that. But the bad news is...It is still in my head. rat'
