For those of you that eat breakfast before you go in the woods what is your favorite quick and easy things to eat?
Waffle House scrambled with cheese plate, raison toast, hash browns scattered and smothered and country ham.
pre made breakfast burritos, prefferaby with elk/deer/antelope sausage. Mmm Mmm good!
easy to warm up on the stove or fire if wrapped in tin foil
Oatmeal. Not the instant paste.
Oatmeal with some sort of fresh fruit.
Clif bar is what i eat each and every morning. It is loaded with protein and healthy carbs to keep you going no matter what your doing.
After the DIY elk thread I have come to love peanut butter, bacon, tortillas.
Nothing! Hunting on an empty stomach makes you hunt harder, not sure if it works since I haven't gotten a deer in two years but its what the old guys I hunt with always say so I might as well keep it going ha ha.
Caleb
ROLLED OATS every morning
Usually nothing, Cliff bar or coffee if I eat anything. I eat after the morning hunt.
Now after a duck hunt, breakfast burritos with a Bloody Mary, sitting on the porch watching the survivors dive bomb the bliwatt inking of the next morning
One thing I cannot have is coffee. I love it,but it will haunt me BAD as soon as I get out there. I like peanut butter on bread, cold glass of milk, and an apple to eat as I walk out.
What ever you do,don't get the corned beef hash!
(see the "share some bad morning hunts" thread)
Right before i leave in the morning I eat a medium pizza, some roast beef, bowl of cereal, pasta, yaa oatmeal too, and top it off with apples and peanut butter. mmmmhmmm
Dont forget to pack snacks for when you're hungry twenty minutes later!
:biglaugh:
but seriously
coffee for me, but I have to roll out pretty early to make sure I can take care of the business before I head out if you know what I mean? Hate getting dressed up and having to take it off just to get dressed again.
Deer steak, scrambled eggs(6),wheat toast and a stack of wheat pancakes with blueberrys or blackberrys, This usually holds me for the first couple hrs or so then I have deer jerky, trail mix and protien bars to keep me going the rest of the hunt! My body is trained to do business after dinner so that isn't a problem while hunting!!
Peanut butter toast and coffee.
Hardees sausage biscuit
Oatmeal or/and fresh fruit and cold milk. Usually a bananna. I eat light as I have long walks and heavy greasy food makes for an unwanted stop. I pack granola bars, a candy bar and a couple sandwiches with a liter of water. No coming out for me when I am in the big woods.
Close to home or farm hunting, biscuit from the local cardiac clogger. God Bless
Almost anything with a large coffee........
Coffee - dried fruit - raw nuts....doesn't weigh you down and I'm good for the morning...
><>>
glenn
Caseys - pizza and a dounght
I learned to eat light. And try not to eat grease. I don't like to end up with the walking sharts
Same every morning, work, play or hunt.
1 coffee, frozen fruit/tofu/protein powder smoothie and bowl of homemade granola with sliced pineapple and almond milk. I pack a good lunch for the trail as I like to stay out all day.
Oh, and a comfy pillow for my nap...
I make an egg white omelet with onion, mushrooms, green or red pepper, kale or spinach. Two pieces of Ezekiel toast with homemade grape or blueberry jelly and a coffee....whether I am hunting or not.
I can not eat a large breakfast. Usually only a cup of coffee and a piece of toast or two.
monster energy drink, and a honey bun....
Little Debbie oatmeal pies.
:readit: :readit:
Nothing before. I sometimes take an apple or granola bar with me.
:archer:
Denny's Grand Slam (with grits).
Usually very little in the morning before a hunt, maybe a bowl of oatmeal or cereal, and then a hige breakfast afterward...pancakes, sausage, fruit, all sorts of delisciousness. The thought of it keeps me warm on the cold sits in the stand in the morning.
Mudd, it wasn't because I didn't think of it but I didn't mention it because I didn't wnat to go down that trail again. Now you did it! :deadhorse:
Peanut butter and jelly. Every time. :D
I'm hooked on coffee but DO NOT drink coffee unless you bring the 1-gallon ziplock for up in the stand if you know what I mean,,,, yeah gross but beats climbing down and then ruining your spot..
okay food--> #1 is energy bars,, whatever type or brand but the ones the mtn bikers use works for me, even the cerial bars at the dollar store except remove them from the package and wrap in toilet paper because the wrappers are noisy and toilet paper has other uses like marking bloodtrails or you know.
my buddy would bring those small cans of diet drinks with the vitamins that fill you up for awhile, I don't like lugging empty cans around though.
instant oatmeal (microwave) w/ toast, and a cup of good cold milk, and then coffee for the ride
Two cups of coffee and eat when I get back.
Just one cup of COFFEE! before, and a couple of granola bars while I'm out...and like the hash stay away from the sausage gravy and biscuts...no matter how good it is! :bigsmyl:
The bagel is tough and can be loaded with anything you want, and does not crumble in a pack. I have PB and J and sometimes ham and eggs.
Eggs from my free range chickens. Nothing stays with you like eggs unless of course you have some venison to go with them. Besides, they say FR chicken eggs have 20 times the omega3 as store bought eggs. The incredable, eatable, egg.
An apple or banananananana (how the hell do stop spelling it!!!) & a cup of coffee, then as much Grizzly Wintergreen as I can carry! I throw a Special K cereal bar in my pack for around 9:30
I keep myself filled up & comfortable by drinking a lot of powdered fruit drinks.
Weight Watchers has taught me to do without a heavy breakfast (& losing 52# since May doesn't lie!)
Lots.
Light and quick for breakfast. Now lunch, that's traditional...especially if there's one on the meatpole! I'm with Ron LaClair, grits topped with fried eggs are hard to beat. My version has bacon bits, cheddar cheese and butter. Ummm, I can just feel my arteries closing. Oh well, we all got to go of something, just know where you're headed! No offense Ron, I'll pass on the hot sauce, don't need to waste the evening hunt in the outhouse!
Nothing, or just an apple after brushing teeth with baking soda.
W/out a doubt.Tracy Dunn's pancakes.
Those flat, brown toasted w/ butter and syrup things they sell at Bob Evan's,Waffle House, ect, ect,ARENOT pancakes.I've seen real pancakes.Thank to Tracy.
I'm with the "Nothing" crowd...
Never been a big breakfast person before hunting/fishing. But I have a Clif bar or crackers with me for a snack.
I usually stop at Mickey-D's for a sausage biscuit with egg, and put mustard on it.
pb&j
Bacon/Egg/Cheese/Roasted Peppers on a large, hard roll. 16 oz Coffee, 8 oz OJ.
I'm with Archie. Them Sausage Biscuits with an egg are hard to beat.
Back strap fried in bacon grease, potatoes and onions fried, eggs fried, multigrain toast with honey. Keeps me goin all day.
I mentioned Clif bar for my breakfast every morning but failed to mention the numerous cups of coffee that go with it. I love to take left over pancakes folded over peanut butter for my lunch on stand.
Wheaties. The breakfast of champions! :)
I'm also with the "nothing" crowd. I wait to eat after getting back to the cabin...then, a big breakfast.

Coffee and whatever I can grab quick (usually a pop tart or something similar) as I walk out the door. Whatever it is I have to be able to eat it as I am drive to where I hunt.
Coffee and a Cliff bar...
Breakfast on whatever , but carry GORP for the bonk.
Coffee and a doughnut or a bowl of cereal, then a PB&J for a little later. Then back to camp around noonish for a good lunch.
at home I eat breakfast around 7:30.
so while hunting I hunt the morning stand on an empty stomach. Then eat breakfast about 9:30. works for me.
other wise oat meal.
3 scrambled eggs with shredded cheddar cheese, S&P and diced Jalepeno, toast with jam and either bacon, sausage or steak. In my pack I like a couple Honey Crisp Apples when in season or Galas.
How did I miss this thread...
For a stick to your ribs breakfast that'll last ya till ya get back home you can't beat a big plate of grits with sharp cheddar cheese on top and 2 or 3 eggs over easy on top of that. Dose it up real good with Louisiana hot sauce an with yer belly full of that you're good to go.
A little meat on the side, like bacon, sausage or fried catfish and you'll think you've died and an gone to Heaven...
