Just put on a skinny string from Lefties R Us (sponsor) on a 62 inch 56 lb Silvertip. By the way highly impressed with the quietness and feel of the string. Folks make a nice clean string, and nice to deal with.
Got nocking point set at 3/8 above level shooting 400 spine easton axis with 175 WW upfront. Get just a little wobble with arrow flight. Not much but not perfect. Bow is braced at 7.5 inches. I can move up knock height to arrow 9/16 and arrow flight is perfect. Just seems and looks a little high. 3/8 was perfect flight with regular FF string. Anyone else shooting this high of nock point off of shelf with a silver tip? Just curious.
Not sure of your total setup but I've found the best shelf and side plate material is velcro.
I would also bump the brace height to between 7 3/4 and 8". That will definitely be the sweet spot on a 62" tip. If you place a little velcro type material on the limb string grooves it will really quiet the bow.
Yep....my buddy Allen sure makes a nice string! That's what I have on my tip.
Adam, glad you like the string!
I would listen to Tim....he has had a couple Silvertips in his time! :saywhat: :saywhat:
He can tune them pretty darn good.
Listen to Tim. He knows his Silvertips.
He got my setup working great.
Thanks,
I will up the Brace height a little and see what that does. Got adheasive felt in string grooves. Bought time to replace, been there 5 years. I believe that is kinda what got me off a little and this skinny string is quiet from 7.25 to 7.5 inches so I just quit there, regular FF strings I shot this bow at 7.75
I'll put it this way... All the 'Tips I've known, if you were over 9/16" on the placement of the nock set, there was something else wrong.
Brace height.... Well, I've never played with a 62"er. I have a 27" draw. Shooting a bow that long would be like wiping before you poop.
I find the best nocking point for me by shooting a bare shaft into a soft target from about 10 feet or so. If the arrow hits nock high I lower the nocking point (vice versa if it is nock low) until the shaft is parallel to the ground. If the nock is left or right then you have a spine problem. For me, the real test is if the arrow shoots straight with a broadhead on it.
I think Tim got it right. But I would suggest that it might be due to the fact that string has increased your peformance a bit, or as you said wasn't back to the brace needed for that arrow.
I understand your dilemia. Those skinny strings are so much quieter, it really increases the sound range for an acceptable brace. God Bless
I've been playing with "Tips" since the early eighties and Tim is correct about the brace height for a 62"er.... and don't be afraid to increase to 8.25-8.5 if needed.
