I know there have been threads about this but Im gettin ready to buy and I want to get the best stuff for me. I hunt a lot of public land so I walk a lot, but when I get to where im going I try to set all day. What will be the best base layer for me for those long sets after somtimes a very long walk in. I tried the UA stuff and I really dont like it. Thanks.

kuiu Merino wool of various weights with a "windstop" type garment for layering after you get to the stand if it's a little chilly. Then a coat/rain gear if needed
Merino wool in my experience is the best stuff out there. The UA stuff actually seems to hold your scent instead of wicking away. IMO
I like silk as my base layer, even when warm. When cold I put on layers of wool over the silk. I like Cabela's wooltimate with their windshear and in outfitter camo.
Merino wool. Smart Wool light, soft, comfortable by it self in to the 70's. Layer over that with medium as temp drops and then a heavy like Filson over that with a wool vest if necessary. Keeps the core warm and keeps flexiblity in your arm and shoulder area. Works for most of Oregon but we don't get the bitter cold during season like you boys back east. One week left here and I doubt it's been below 80 during the day this season. Doesn't feel like season till November.
Silk as the first layer. Merino wool over that. Wool shirt and pants over that and maybe a wool jacket over that. Works for me on all day sits in northern Wiscosin in November and December.
Merino wool.

Merino wool
Merino wool, but the best base layer is a dry one. Carry as much on your back as possible on the way in. Don't get all sweaty.
If you decide you don't like wool, take a look at Gator Skins. They are great.
In fairly mild cold, I like a silk layer like you see the skiers wear. In colder weather I prefer merino wool.
I was really impressed with my Minus 33 last year. Not too expensive, either, compared to some alternatives
First Lite Merino. Minus 33 too if not concerned about camo.
merino wool is the best by far!
A couple of weeks ago I spent five days backpacking and hunting in high 80s and low 90s.One pair of micro-weight boxers NO STINK and veyy comfortable

Either light weight merino wool by Smart Wool or silk (which is very thin and wicks to next layer the best).
I like the Under Armour type knock offs, then a layer of Merino covered with something wind resistant.
minus33 for me.
I like the midweight Minus 33 merino wool.
It's either silk or minus 33/woolpower for my base. I have quit buying silk though, so once the current set is gone it will only be wool.
The only reason I dropped silk is durability. It costs almost as much as wool but is not durable at all.
Carol Davis Sporstwear if really cold otherwise a poly pro from cabelas.
