Title: Winter kill buck
Post by: lone hunter on September 17, 2012, 04:41:00 PM
While doing stream and fish surveys for the power company he works for, my son spotted something under a stream bank and partly buried in silt. As he began digging it out, the hole got bigger and bigger until finally the stream bed gave up it's prize.

Now thats some unusual headgear.  Split brows, drop tines and trash....Great find!  Congrats to your son.

I found a very interesting place on the web (not a sponsor here so no link) that does a dip similar to that of camo dipping, but instead it is of metalic finishes for skulls and Euro mounts.  That would look awesome in antique bronze IMO.

Awesome looking deer. Wonder if some hunter didnt shoot that deer and just not find it. I have seen wounded deer go to water to lay down. If it was that way, there sure is one broken hearted hunter out there.

I'am glad you enjoyed seeing the buck. Out of a shop full of nice buck and bull horns, we've only put the tape to one and that was to measure the spread. That particular buck was killed in an epic battle with another buck. The spread was 24" and we often wonder what the victor looked like. We likely will have a euro mount done but the skull plate is pretty delicate. My son has a spot picked out on the wall to put the head....MY wall not his. Thanks for the kind words. Mike

Makes you wonder what really happened.

Either Mother Nature gave up a real prize or someone is still wondering where he went.
