Title: Arrow Help (CE Heritage)
Post by: jarradmears on September 15, 2012, 12:14:00 PM
Hi folks,

I was wondering if anyone could give me a little advice. I'm very new to trad I get so many different opinions on arrows. I'm drawing about 28 1/2" to 29" on a good day. I have CE Heritage 250's and 350's cut to 31". I shoot a Caribow Peregrine 53#@28" and a Caribow Slynx 61#@28". I shoot 125 grain field points but have just picked up some Zwickey broadheads. I bought the Eskilite 130 grain and the Eskimo 160 grains. I use the 250's for the Peregrine and the 350's for the Slynx.

I guess my question would be am I using the correct arrows for my current set up? I'm really confused because express chart is telling me to use 350's for both bows at that arrow length.

I thing you should be able to get the 250's to shoot out of both bows. I shoot 250's out of all my 50-55# bows with no problems. Cut at 30 3/4 ... Less then that gets a bit stiff, but should work with some tuning on your Slynx. I have found the CE's pretty forgiving. I use one of those cheap little chop saws from Harbor Frieght to cut my carbons down, it works fine for the small amount of cutting I do. I cut off a 1/4 " at a time for tuning.

Thank you Elkken! What kind of weight are you putting up front?

I would think the 250 would be the better choice for those bows. From what I can tell from your post it doesn't sound like you have gone through a tuning process. Take a look here and you will be able to make just about any arrow work for a bow.    http://bowmaker.net/tuning.htm

I am shooting the standard inserts with 160 grain BH's, Simmons Tree Sharks and I shoot 145 grain field points. For stump shooting I put 2216 aluminum collars front and back, 1 1/2" front and 3/8' back and shoot 125 grain judos. The collars really make your stumpers almost bomb proof.

I think everyone will be a bit different because of form, release etc. I shoot a 47# @ 28" Chad Holm Goshawk (I draw 32" so guessing I'm hitting about 57#s) My arrows are full length CE 250's (32.75")with 145gr field points and they fly perfectly. Use the link above to test and see what works for you.

My recurve is 51 lbs at my draw. I use the Heritage 150's with a total of 225 grains up front. The 350's should be WAY to stiff for your 53 pound bow and you could likely shoot the 150's in that bow as well. I also would use the 250's for your 61 pound bow. I don't think you need the 350's.

Just my opinion, God Bless.
