Season is finally here. Our Season opeans tomrrow and can't wait to get out there. Got a new bow this year and ready to shoot something besides foam with it. Good luck this year to all you that hunt here in Missouri.
Good luck Mo guys. Hope to get out in the morning.
Don't really have a destination, but plan to,at least get in the woods.
Ron
Have fun,we are 2 weeks off
i'l be out in the morning, if for no other reason than just to sit in my stand and enjoy the cool air we got now. and maybe scare a few sqirrels, but the does and young bucks get to walk. maybe i can get some video to share with you all.
good luck.
Best of luck and enjoy.
Good luck guys.
Arrow30, a video would be awesome. I miss hunting in Montgomery county. Awesome hunting out there.
Now, living in St Louis county, having a difficult time finding good public land to hunt.
I plan on showing up for a fun time and a bout of "West Nile" roulette...lol
Good luck!
God bless, Mudd
I will be out. Just checked the trail cam and still have a small buck lurking around in velvet. Pic was 3 days old. I think he was only a six point and we are under the four on one side rule. Good Luck everyone!!!!
I am excited to get out there also. This weather makes it feel more like hunting season. This is only my second year hunting Trad and didn't have any luck last year. So I hope this year is the one! Good Luck to all hunting in Missouri.
Phil
I want to see pictures ASAP. Good luck.
Good luck, y'all, I won't get out myself, too much going on!!!
This will be my first time bowhunting in 2 or 3 years.Lookin forward for mornin to get here.
I'll be missing this one. :help:
I'm sitting here with a cast on my right wrist and thumb, not allowed to shoot but couldn't with this thing anyway. Hoping I won't need surgery or I'll miss the whole season. :banghead:
You guys go get 'em!
Tim
Glad to see the cooler weather for a change on an opening day.
Tim - sorry you're laid up, I'll be praying for your recovery.
Medley, Howell Island and St. Stanislaus Ca, are both good places to hunt in St. Louis County.
Its rained lightly here all day and have seen 5 big toms out infront of house and seen a nice doe out the back of the house a couple of times today. Watching her right now with my boy. Come on tomorrow.
Finished up processing our hog. Almost got the mess cleaned up.
Put permone on my clothes.
Did a little shooting.
Touched up the broad heads.
Got my H.I.P.S. blind on my PAC seat.
And all loaded in the truck.
Now where to try, just don't have a morning spot.
Good luck guys!
I want to see a pic of something brown on this thread before day's end. :archer2:
Brown like this Tim?

this fella came in and napped for an hour and a half this morning...52 yards from my ladder stand. I tried everything to move him off his "spot"...mouth squeals, mouth bleats, deer grunts finally a varmint call which in 15 seconds produced a big doe busting in...no I didn't get a shot. Coyote simply stood up, then calmly went back to sleep. Since I was getting hungry I decided to take a shot and lofted an arrow right over his back. He jumped up and moved about 30 yards farther away, eventually wandering off.
I walked over to his resting area and found this:
a well worn napping spot on a small ridge about 30 yards above the floor of the draw..roughly halfway down the slope.
Another pic:

I've taken to carrying a small Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 with a 16X optical zoom and an additional 4X digital zoom. The 'yote pics are with the 20X combined power. Great little camera with stabilizer feature that fits in a pocket.
All in all a wonderful morning.
Good luck to all of you hunting in Missouri! NY is still two weeks off.....
Good luck to all of you hunting in Missouri! NY is still two weeks off.....
seen 3 does and 5 fawns, but these twins without a mom hung around awhile. sat a different stand for the evening, nothing seen.
http://youtu.be/Ni5F3yCDRc8
Good luck neighbors. Be careful and bring back some stories WITH pictures!
sat in my stand for about an hour and a half this morning, then i got the wandering bug.
so off i went, i new this big buck liked this area but i was suprised to see him anyway.
i snuck in to about a hundred yds. and he was just going over the ridge when i finally spotted him again, he had three gobblers for lookouts so i just sat and watched them, then i decided to put the sneak on them....you know how that turned out!
i made me a little blind close to the spot where he was at, he had tracks all over the area and some rubs... so i got a little plan going on.

Hunted my brother in law's farm up in Pike County this weekend. Saw 3 does, and my buddy shot a very nice doe on Saturday morning at around 7:00 AM.
All in all the weather was perfect, drank a little whiskey, cooked some great food, and enjoyed myself.
Now that I have the opening day bug out of my system I will start getting really hyped again about the end of October.
Any updates guys? I am going to get out there Sunday morning. Should be in the 40's in the morning.
Leaning towards goin in the morning.Probably won't have anything to talk about but who knows.
Coming back from buying a battery for my wifes car tonite, most deer have left the beans and are either in hayfields or along oak patches.
Good luck this weekend!
Just got in from the woods. Saw a total of 7 deer and 2 racoons. Passed up shots at 2 different button bucks. Momma and sister wouldn't come in. When I came out in field from my stand, I saw a buck run off and 1 unknown. Cool evening.
Went to Chillicothe over opening weekend. Saturday morning had a 6 point try to climb my tree. Saturday evening, cracked the seal on a doe. Pictures are on Dads Camera I will post a picture soon.
Five trips, no deer seen. I take that back, I did find a dead doe while lookin for a stand location.
Trail cams are cold too, not sure what's up? It's looking like public land in my future!
Good luck & happy hunting
And congrats on the doe Scott! Way to get it started
good luck everyone :clapper:
I have drug some nice deer out of your state, they sre sure lurking around. Good Luck guys and be careful.
God Bless,
Nathan
Good luck this weekend guys. I wont be able to make it out this weekend. The bow club I helped with this year has a event on Saturday to help with. Helping little kids learn about bows and teaching them how to shoot . Maybe it will plant a seed in them and get them hooked. Got faimly stuff the rest of the weekend. All is good though get all out of the way now which leaves me opean for the the whole month of Oct. and Nov. :bigsmyl:
Good job Scott! No surprise though... :banghead:
I was covered up in deer this morning and thought I might have to shoot my way out but the only one that gave me a shot had spots and got a pass.
I'll stick this one in this thread too, Sat AM, he came to me from a hundred yards like on a string to about 8 yds, but just didn't trip my shoot trigger.

Had I sat 10-15 more minutes I coulda shot(at) a yote, now that shot I won't turn down!!
Guys I'm like RLA. I have been out 7 times finely this morning seen 2 fawns and a 4 point. Don't know what to think so far. I have been hunting this place for six years now and never so much time in the field before seeing anything. Maybe the drought?
Water could be a big factor, they need to drink every day. If its a long way, they may hang closer. We have a lot of ponds here, so they haven't changed up much.
Hunted this evening.
Jumped one deer coming into my blind, not sure if it was a doe or buck.
Didn't see any deer rest of sit.
However, I had a coyote run past me at a steady trot only 20 yards out. Had a baby raccoon walk literally 8 feet in front of me (I was in constructed ground blind), and had a squirrel come to 3 feet in front of me.
No deer, but very rewarding hunt anyhow.
It was a beautiful day today and I had to go hunting. I was feeling extra spunky so I told the wife I planned to try an area where I saw a nice buck at the end of last season. The location is on public land but the hilly terrain and distance from the parking lot means very little hunting pressure. The wife reminded me she enjoys chili much more than antler stew, so I promised not to pass a fat doe if the opportunity arose. I took the game cart just in case since I didn't want to walk all the way back to the truck if I was successful. I found a perfect spot and settled back to enjoy the afternoon. The squirrels were in overdrive and very entertaining. After about an hour, here comes a fat doe.
I was not impressed with the performance of the Woodsman broadheads last year so I switched to Ace. You can't be disappointed with penetration like this!
She wasn't quite sure what happened, so she walked off a little ways and it was over. Even though I knew where she was laying, I like to follow the trail to see what I can learn.
After a quick photo, I began the long haul back to the truck. Wow, I knew I was getting old but come on! It took me an hour to get her up the first hill and another half hour to get her to the truck. Thank goodness the last stretch was down hill.
I learned something today. I need to hunt flatter ground, exercise more, and/or find a hunting partner. Straining that hard at 50+ years old is a recipe for a heart attack.
I hope you guys had a good day as well. Happy Hunting. :archer2:
Nice job Wind.
After talking Dad thru emailing me a pic, I have one of my Chilli doe.......now to make doe chili...
Those are both nice big fat ole slick heads, guys!
Congrats to you both...! Yum!
congratts! guys....wind d, i know what you mean 50+..the hills seem steeper!
Nice doe Onestringer. :clapper:
I just got done grinding, wrapping, and freezing my chili doe. I hope to hit the timber again tomorrow evening.
Have you guys been seeing anything?
Anyone get a chance to hunt the foggy weather? looked perfect
Great job guys, those are good eating!
Congrats on the deer taken. I went out yesterday and was on the ground in a brush pile between two fields. I decided to get up and move because I haden't seen anything. That was a bad mistake as I go through the brush making noise a nice 8 pointer was chasing a doe right to me, until they heard me.
Weather getting very cold. Will be out Saturday and sunday
Got to go tonite, does and little ones around, but the turkeys and the good buck(and a lil one) stayed out a hundred + yards at other end of wheat plot......

Here is the buck, probably gross around 120-130, but had 2 cute stickers on his G2s about 3-4" long. You can barely see em in the pic. They angle forward, can see em from side or front!!
I'da probably shot him, but he wasn't interested in lite rattling or grunting, so I didn't push it. He will be around..... :D
(http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/kennym/SANY0120.jpg)
Called a yote in after sunset, when I heard him bark at the ones across the creek. He came in downwind naturally and my setup almost worked anyway. Was at half draw waiting for him to clear a pinoak limb when he decided his Mom was calling him.... :archer2:
I was out this evening on the ground in an area I've hunted with a stand, but the wind is notorious for shifting in this creek bottom. I've never seen a deer here, but it is a good funnel area and so I ground hunted. Once again at about 6:30 the wind shifted, so I just moved a few steps. Well just before dark, three bucks walked down into a low area waiting to cross the creek. I could only see this fellow and I knew if he tried to cross they would all three spook. He got to about 45 feet of me in some brush and began to look my way. Not sure if he could see me or if he was just checking out the crossing. It seemed like awhile and my arms started to cramp up, as I dared not to move. He made the mistake of turning his head and when he did an arrow was on it way thru a small opening in the brush. They all three took off and within 50 yards I heard tree limbs breaking and knew he was down. I have a feeling the two other bucks may have been even bigger, but I'm happy as my intention was to shoot a doe for the meat and it doesn't seem to get any more exciting as when you're on the ground and an opportunity happens.

Finally connected with trad gear for the first time tonight. I got hooked on this site 8 yrs ago and have been patiently waiting. Here she is. Thank you Lord.

Congratulations Bowman and mqqse! Very nice.
I saw several does yesterday morning but have yet to see a buck. On the way back to the truck, I made a nice shot on a fat rabbit. I haven't had fried rabbit in ages. :)
Way to go guys!!
Nice buck Neven! Way to get it done on the ground.
Way to go Chris! There's only one "first", enjoy it! :archer2:
Nice deer guys.
Lost count of the deer I saw yesterday afternoon. Mostly buttons and spikes, a couple of does, and one decent 8. Passed on two buttons, almost shot another one that was big as a doe. One doe spotted my ladder stand, which had only been there three hours, and actually crept up and stuck her nose to the ladder. Wrong side, so she was spared. None of the other deer seemed to notice it.
Very few acorns here are good (SW MO). LOTS of bad red oak acorns and post oak acorns. No white oak acorns at all that I've seen. The spot where I am hunting has black oak acorns that are good, and the deer know it!
Got a doe on the ground this morning. No pics though. Nice deer Mo Bowman and mqqse!
Thanks and congrats. I'm not sure if it's like this everywhere but it seems like already I've see more deer this year then before.
That's good to hear. I haven't been able to hunt yet, but I'm hoping to get out at least a few days this year.
Neven,
GREAT JOB! AWESOME BUCK. :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Thanks guys, appreciate the high fives and handshakes.
Second outing this year, same stand. NW wind in the face along property line where two fence lines "T." Saw a doe about 5:50 come out in the beans 100 yds out and feed for a few minutes then returned to the timber. About 10 min before last light, a hear two doe bleats along tree line behind the trees. Here comes one, two, now four, now six, finally 7. As luck would have it, they head due north away from me except a little fellar. Well, I'm not shooting the little ones (my nephew is good a that, he shot another button buck last weekend 10 min in his stand, dirty rat). So the little guy keeps coming but now momma wants to keep tabs so she starts coming behind him. Well, as true luck would have it, the whole herd follows and start feeding all within 20 yds. Justifying the doe kill in my mind since they are in a big group, momma breaks to my right and stops 8 yds out but I don't have a clear shot due to an overhanging branch. I've got my bow drawn and anchored and I slowly kneel to get clearance and stop to take a breath, relax, and release. Lighted arrow quickly disappears and then reappears. What the what the, did I miss? Arrow seemed to flop on the ground. Deer break up and momma heads into the beans, but doesn't go far and it gets really quiet. The rest of the pack return from whence they came. Grab phone and txt the Mrs that it looks good and I'll be home late. Now time to lower bow, well, lost my carabiner and have to tie a knot to lower my bow.....there she goes, knot failed and my bow crashes below me. Pick up arrow and it's covered in blood end to end. Walk back to truck and get the gator and call nephew (who owes me for cleaning his deer and tolerating his charm), and we go out and she's not 30 yds in the beans.
Well, if you are still with me, thanks for all the support and comradery over the years. I decided early on that I am going to fill the freezer this year and try not to trophy hunt (as much, already changing my mind...)
Didn't have to work today and was able to get out. Seen a good group of turkeys first thing and then a couple of does latter on but they came in slightly down wind of me and could tell something wasn't right and back out of there.
Then on my way out I jumped to good bucks up. They ran out there about 60 yds and stoped. I droped straight down to the ground when I seen them and nock a arrow just in case. We had a starring contest for about three minutes then they turn and walked on ove the hill without flagging or blowing. I did locate a couple of trees to put a stand. Hopefully they will be back.
Thanks Chris and that buck just happened to wonder towards me, but anymore I know that ANY deer taken with traditional is a trophy. Good luck to all. Now I have to figure out what I'm going to hunt when my late Oct. vacation starts.

Got good news at work today, so I decided to slip out on a short hunt to celebrate. First I let two does pass by at 10 yards, next I let a 6 point pass at 10 yards, then I let another doe pass at 20-25 yards, here comes along another doe. A person can only be tempted so many times.

PS: I also really like seeing the youngsters in the Hero shots too!
She's a good one. WTG.
Scott, if you need any help with those extra deer walking by, you got my number!
Darren
Passed on a small forkhorn this morning. Don' want to use my buck tag before my week-long vaction the first full week of November.
Then about 20 minutes later I had a doe about 70 yards in front of my stand in a small saddle between the ridges. Watched her feed for almost a half-hour before she bedded down right there. First time I have seen this in almost a decade of hunting, though I hear it happens a lot... just not to me.
So....
I let her lie for about 30 minutes before deciding it was about time to head home anyway.
Somehow I managed to CLIMB all the way down the tree with my climber stand without spooking her at all.
Then I managed to put my backpack on, put a bike lock on my tree stand, and grab my bow without spooking her.
Then I managed to close the gap from 70 yards to 40 yards.
I could see her lying down 40 yards in front of me. I closed the gap to 35 yards....
Sure enough I step just a little too quickly and she starts staring my direction.
I have a staring contest with her for two minutes and she finally jumps up and takes off..
Was a rush for sure.
The bucks up here are gettin antsy, seen a couple grunting and pushing does , but only a hundred yards or so before they decide her heart aint in it.
Grunting and sparring a lot, the warm weather this week will slow em down, but next weekend with temps near freezing, I think they will go nuts!! About time to get serious!! LOL
Got this guy this morning after about 20 min. waiting and debating on whether to shoot him or not. He finally decided to give me a shot and I took it. Now I am out of any deer tags and turkey season is a long way off....
Nice deer Scott. Buck tag gone so I'm going after coyotes with my bow.
Nice looking buck swp!
Blowing nice and cold out of the N NW this evening. I will be out first thing tomorrow morning. Hoping the rain and wind will push these deer down into bedding until early morning and get them up and moving come first light for some breakfast..
Great buck SWP!! Way to get it done!! :notworthy:
Figured I'd let enough of them pass waiting for Mr. BigBoy with the freezer about empty. 2016 behind a Magnus 2 blade from my Shawnee, double lung, didn't go far. Tendervitals.
You're so right Tom..... Good vitals!
Congratulations!!
God bless,Mudd
I have had the fewest sightings of any year of deer hunting in the past decade. Walked the entire property today a d no scrapes no rubs not even any tracks. In years past I would see a half dozen or more deer per sit. This year I have seen 3 total. Any other MO guys experiencing this?? O think Ehd and drought might have taken a huge toll in my area. It is depressing.
The only buck I've seen that would make the 4-point minimum was laying dead in the river. I have seen plenty of does and a couple of fork horns. I found a couple of rubs so far that look promising. I'm off work all next week so hopefully I'll see something exciting.
We are lucky here in n central, bout the same as usual.
Sam, when season first opened I ask the same thing. Something going on here also. The trails and buck sign I see every season are few this year. Things have improved the last 2 weeks. We are seeing more deer, but they seem to be holding to a smaller area. Lots of fawns with no mama early. Two weeks ago saw a buck chasing a doe and not trailing I mean full out chase. Since then everthing normal. Strange season so far for me and partner.
I am off Nov 5 - 10th. Hopefully the rut kicks in and sightings increase.
Released my first traditional arrow at a critter this morning.Saw a few deer but nothing offered a shot.Decided to head home and on the way out saw a couple jakes about 200 yards between me and the truck.Jumped back in the trees and put the sneak on.Got to the end of the ditch and lucked out as they droped behind a levee.Snuck up there knowing when I poked my head over I'd have to act fast.Of course they saw me, one flew and one trotted straight away.Decided to take the shot but shot where he was and not where he was gonna be.Hit about 10 yards right behind him.Oh well it was pretty fun anyways.
Color me jealous our season is done.
Just got home from a visit to your beautiful state... My first Missouri hunt but not my last :)
Hunted around Carrollton and this fine 11 point Missouri Buck gave me a shot.....

Great buck, congrats. Come back anytime!
Wow, that's a great buck! Cool brow tines too.
You Missouri guys have some great bucks... I hunted a wood lot in the middle of beans and corn. The trail cameras caught some huge bucks. I was very lucky, the moon was full and the temps were rising but I was blessed with one chance and it worked. I hunted the rest of my stay in the hopes of one of your big Toms and came feet from a shot at a monster but I didn't see another shooter (4 point or better) buck the rest of the trip. Good luck guys... it should get real good soon.....
that's a gorgeous buck!
Heck of a nice buck Coaster. You wheren't huntin to awful far from me.
Nice buck!
Got very very close to getting a shot at a good buck this morning. Had a doe working toward me after entering the the woods from the field. When all of a sudden a nice buck come busting into the woods straight toward me. He finally stop at about 10 yards facing straight at me he raised his head up and then turn and took five big jumps away from me and got behind some big trees. Then went on to chase the doe on over the hill away from me. Don't know how many points for sure but he was tall and heavy. I think he was a 8 or 9 point.
I took a shot like that once before when one was facing me at the base of the neck and never recovered it and that was after a blood trail that you could follow for half to three quarters of a mile as fast as you could walk, and then all of a sudden it stop. I said never again was I going to take that shot.
Maybe I will see him again it. It was still a great encounter though.
Vacation starts tomorrow. Any of you guys get out this morning?? Was perfect weather. Share some observations. I am hearing mixed reviews from Missouri guys about where we are in the rut right now. What have you all observed??
Had 20 turkeys 10 yards from me yesterday while I was hunting out of a brushpile. Real hard to get a draw with 40 eyes watching. I just let them walk by.
Missed a doe this morning, sitting in brush ground blind. She saw me draw and I rushed the shot and didn't pick a spot. Had a 5 pt buck at 10 feet. He was trying to figure out what that hyperventilating bush was doing.....to bad I don't have a buck tag left. :archer2:
Shot this one this morning with a bow made by kennym from here in mo. It was from this year's bow swap on the bowyers bench. Thanks kenny.
:archer:
Congrats Dave!
Great job DV!!!!!
That's 2 for you this year Dave, good job.
Saw 2 bucks this morning and one trespasser carrying a scoped rifle. Guess he didn't realize he was trespassing and that gun season wasn't open yet or that their are houses on three sides of this 40 acre property. I don't think he will be back!
Good job Dave!! :clapper: :clapper:
Finished my season today with my best archery buck so far. I'm lucky to live in a state which has bucks like this running on public ground.
I've taken 4 shots this season and have brought 1 doe, 1 buck, 1 rabbit, and 1 squirrel home to fill the freezer. Now I better get some honey-do's done since my wife has been so patient.
Good luck to ya'll :archer:
Nice buck Jim!!
Nice deer gentleman. I know all about those honey do's... lol. Tried to get as many done before the season as possible.
Got out there this morning. Hunted til noon. Didn't see anything. I did however see 2 scrapes and a rub. First sign ive seen on the property this year.
Still doesn't seem like they are chasing hard yer here in Eastern Central Missouri... could be just not on the property I am hunting though.
I will be out again tomorrow morning. Then heading up to 3,500 acre farm in Pike County, MO for the weekend.
congratts, wind.
That's a fine looking deer!
Wind D Ranch what a great season!!!
Well done sir :)
