I inherited a Bear Polar from my Dad. He bought it new in 1960. It doesn't have a string. It's 66" in length.
I have been shooting longbows where a string 3" shorter than the bow seems to be the standard starting place.
Is a string 4" shorter than the AMO bow length still the standard on recurves? I used to always shoot an endless string in the old days on recurves.
Last question...where is the best place to buy a string? A friend made all my strings before I moved. I would guess the bigger companies like 3Rivers would have them in stock.

Look in the Sponsor's classfied section. Any of them can hook you up

Since the 66" Polar is a recurve, I would go with a 62" string.
My two Blacktail TD recurves are 66" in length and when I order a new string for each, I always order 62" strings.
