Post by: overbo on September 12, 2012, 06:06:00 AM
Can some of you Silvertip owners tell me the specs of your bow.Brace, nock point, ect, ect.

Recently received a 60'' non-fastflight Tip and can't seem to get it to behave.

Mine was set at 7 5/8" BH, nock 5/8" - it is a 64" recurve. throws darts, but was still not as quiet as i like.  Tim had me add a bear rest - modified and it really quieted the bow down. same settings as above just raised up to align with rest.  did a lot of work on this in the last month - let me know if you need more info.

The second has 2 set of limbs,no one look to be' difficult to tune and they like lots of different arrows, also if only 1set up is perfect,But no fishtailing or porpoising.

Try 8" and 5/8" nock pt (i shoot 3 under). Ty 58" Tip shot best at 7 5/8" but could be shot at a higher BH too. Same nock pt

I had a skinny string for it but the TS-1 i had was better as far as arrow flight  on that bow for whatever reason

My 62" non ff is 7and 5/8 and 9/16 nock, same for my 60" ff model. I had a 58" and it was set the same. All three shoot the same AD trad, 30.5" with 100 gr brass insert and 250-300 gr point. I will say that the 58" was rated for ff but shot better and quieter with a 14 strand B50 string on it.

I'm at 7 7/8'' brace w/ a 7/16 nock.
Has a Bear rug shelf and leather strike plate???
All my other bows have velcro.
Have beaver ball silencers.
Would like it more quiet and a bit smoother at the shot.
Shooting 600+gr woods

another reason for a bow to be loud is a too stiff arrow, lot of people overlook this.

My Tip is a 60" 47#@27" but it's FF. it's a take down. 7 1/2" brace. nocking point 5/8"  I shoot off an elevated shelf.  I shoot split finger. I use wool for my silencers. Which I make my self. My arrows are Easton Axis 500 with a 75 grain brass insert and 175 gr field point. They are cut to 28". The bow is quite and arrows shoot like darts.

I have a 62" non-FF original Schafer that arrived last week, and new strings should be arriving for it any day.

Looking forward to getting it set up - lots of great info here!!!!!

Any suggestions on arrows/broadhead combinations?  I shot Grizzlystick Alaskans off of my 62# Silvertip this year with Bear Razorheads, and they performed incredibly well.

Any other secrets/tips that I should be aware of?

I have a 62" and a 60" takedown and both are set up very similiar.  I use a Bear Weatherrest that I modify by trimming off about a 1/16 of an inch off the bottom.  I put velcro on the entire shelf and mount the rest right on top of the velcro(this keeps the arrow as close to my hand as possible but I still get the benefits of the rest). I shoot both of mine between 7 3/4 an 8 inch brace height.  I also have a strip of velcro under the limb tips to help ease any string slap.  My string is a 12 strand dyna 97 with a few extra strands of dacron in the loops and one set of rubber silencers on the string.  The bow is extremely quiet and very forgiving.

If your bow is a dacron bow I'd recommend a similiar setup but instead of fast flight material I'd opt for a 14 strand endless loop dacron string with one set of rubber silencers.  The rubber silencer seem to remove some of the limb vibration you can get with a silvertip. An endless loop string made with dacron has a real nice feel.

Hope that helps.....Tim

I was getting some lift from my shelf material(bear rug).Switched to Velcro and everything seems correct.I have settled on a 7 5/8'' brace and cat wiskers.
BOY I LIKE HOW THIS BOW SHOOTS.Broke it in on a nice doe a couple weeks ago.
Thanks 4 all the input
