This is my first post been lurking all summer.....i pick up my first recurve in late june, been bowhunting with training wheels for 10 years,at first it was just intrest, which soon became my passion,i shot every day all summer.our season opens in sept. so I thought no way will I be able to hunt this year with a recurve, well shooting every day that change,i just took to it,I decided that I would start the season with my recurve.Well openin day comes and goes saw a few deer no shots. The next day on stand just felt like a great day,7am i see a doe and 2 fawns feeding on acorns, working my way still about 50-60 yards out. When all of a sudden I hear a huffing sound,Ive hear deer make some strange sounds before but never this sound.the does spook and run off,I start to scan the laurel around me ,and spot a buck 20 yards out staring at the does, hestarts to feed off ,I see and opening for a clean shot.Quartering away slightly,I stop him and the rest was like autopilot kicked in i remeber watching my arrow bury behind his shoulder and him bond off. After I calm down(this was an adrenaline rush like I have never felt,I AM HOOKED)I tracked him 120yards(double lung and top of heart), find him, give my thanks.I now know the passion of traditional bowhunting. Mike thank you so much for this bow,it will be with me forever....I dont know what happened it just fit me ,shots were I look....maybe because its a 1970 and so am I I dont know but thanks for sparking this fire.
Let me tell my TG brothers and sisters about Blackjack.
Roy is perfect for this place. He is a passionate bowhunter and a devoted family man. He is also a man of his word. When he says he is going to do it, he does.
Roy was instrumental in spearheading the fight for Sunday hunting in his county (Harford) in Maryland, and he GOT IT. Harford Co. would not have the Sundays they have now without the work of Roy, and that is a fact.
I am so glad he has joined Trad Gang.
Roy, major congrats to you my friend. I am beyond happy for you, and when I saw this all I could do was... :bigsmyl:
Way to go bud!!
Jim THANK YOU,when WE did that for this state and harford .You inspired me to try ,Thats all it took,my desire to try traditional was inspired by your passion for our sport. Now I ve found my place in archery I am HOME.Also to set the records straight without raineman I would have been lost with all that got done. And Jim I still want to take Maryland and Harford further...You were the first person I wanted to Tell but it was 7:45 am,Thanks for everything......hope to talk to you soon .Roy
Great shot, congrats!

life is over as you knew it. you are hooked.
Well done sir! Both on your first trad kill, and all that you have done for your fellow hunters. We should all be so lucky as to have someone in our community to fight for our rights, and correcting often mis-guided laws. My first trad kill was a porcupine, then 2 chipmunks, a red squirrel, and another porcupine. Hoping to break the deer barrier this month during our early firearm antlerless season the 22nd and 23rd. Just have to decide if I wanna use my Hill Country K2, or my Super Shrew long bow. Again, great job, and keep up the good work my friend. Best of luck.
  Good shot.
