So I get it that high arrow weight is good for penetration on large game such as elk, zebra, rhino, and the occasional mastadon. How much is really needed for whitetail? I have some deadly straight shooting arrows that are just a hair over 9gpp out of my 51lb bow. Would you guys think that is fine for arrow weight?
use em.

Yes, without a doubt.
Put it in the boiler room with a razor sharp head and you'll be just fine.
Yes,450 grains is fine.A strong, true flying razor sharp head is all you need.
Buzzcuts or stingers on the front.
8 is my minimum.
9 is my max.
I think you will be fine with those arrows.
Shot a lot of animals including elk with 450-500grn 2 blade tipped cedars without any problems. My bows range from 50 to 60lbs. I'm confident your set up will do just fine.
You are ready, now go pick out a tree! Bet wishes
A 51# bow is "more" than enough for whitetail deer or even mule deer.
With your bow poundage, you're looking at "meat in the freezer" if your aim is true.
It will be more than fine.
Those will work just fine!

I shot 2 deer last year with 410 and a 430 grain arrows outta a 49 pound longbow. Complete pass thru on the broadside one. The second one caught her right below the neck patch as she looked up at me in the tree. It traveled down thru the neck, thru the chest and poked out the back of the sternum. That was only drawn 26 inches at the time. What you got will work just fine bro. God Bless

Establishing unwavering confidence in your set-up is paramount prior heading to the field.
Sounds like good medicine to me! Have
a great season and let us know how you make out!
A straight flying 9 gpp will out penetrate a loggy flying 12 grains per pound most of the time. The important part is your arrows need to be directly behind your broadhead when they strike the deer.
Yes...
This makes me feel souch better bout my setup now as I am shooting 9.3gpp at 50lbs and thinking of uping my weight but man my arrows fly so well I really dont wanna Chang and all im hunti is antalope and deer with a bear hunt next may so I think I'll leave her be
I just weighed my arrows again and it turns out they are just over 8 grains per pound rather than 9. Sure fly well though. Anybody out there having second thoughts about my setup considering the new information?
As long as your bow is quiet and your arrows are flying like darts, I wouldn't give it another thought.
It seems like Fred Bear used to say 10gpi might have been 9 but I'd think they should work fine.
I'm a hair over 11gpp and it works well, but I don't believe that is necessary and I don't think that statistic is useful unless you define a minimum bow poundage.
A 25# kids bow is not suitable even with a 300 grain arrow (12 gpp).
