Title: Arrows for my son
Post by: gokartjon on September 06, 2012, 09:40:00 PM
My son just picked up a 1959 Kodiak Special.

The specs: 46#s @ 28". I am going to guess he is currently drawing 29" and is growing fast.

He tried shooting my GT 5575 Traditionals, but they arent shooting too well and are chewing up feathers and his side plate.

What would you guys recommend for arrow spine for his set up?

The local archery shop is telling me that if I cut these down and put weighted inserts in them, they will work. Any input? I dont want to cut these down and have them not work...

I saw your add in the classifieds. I think you'd be better off with 35/55s with a 50gr brass insert and then a 125 or 145 tip at 30-5", which is full length for them. If not a 50gr insert, then a 200gr point with standard insert.

PM heading your way.

He also mentioned easton legacy's. What would be the right size for those?

Legacy's in 1916 or 2016.

By the time you buy everything to build Legacys you will have spent as much as the 35-55 Blems that Big Jim may now have and the carbons will outlast aluminum. That said the Legacys are a durable and equally accurate option. I wouldn't waste my time with the 55-75's. Nice to see you can share your Trad experience with your son.

Jon,

Look here:

http://www.3riversarchery.com/pdf/ArrowCharts.pdf

Look at his draw length for your arrow suggestion.

Have you actually scaled his bow for accuracy?

If he's really drawing 29 on a bow that is actually pulling 46@28 he's likely pulling 49/50ish.

PM back if you have any more questions.

Good luck.

Bud
