I am looking at buying a nimrod apex or the bison gear elk hunter. I dont know how big the elk hunter is (cant find the info or get a hold of anyone). I like to bivy for 3-4 days max. Need it to be able to haul meat for the first trip out as well as be versatile for day hunts. Any one have either of these packs.

Go with Bison Gear.
I have used my Bison gear from deserts and rain forests to the alps of the Sth Island of New Zealand ...
Can't speak highly enough of Angelo and his products .
DK , I have had both.... I carry a Nimrod as part of a TXTF2 USAR. The Nimrod is a excellently made pack, it is versatile and can be made into many different combinations. You could get to camp , then break it down and have a daypack to hunt with. They Carry well and can be fitted to your frame. Overall, a good solid , flexible pack.
Bisongear.... I own two... A Outfiiter with Shoulder Straps, and a Lost River. All I can say about Bisongear, is QUALITY, CRAFTMANSHIP. You can Customize them while being constructed and accessorize them with extras afterwards. Angelo sent me a Insulated Canteen Holder for my Outfitter, I liked it, but I could not fit a Military Canteen Cup and the Canteen into the holder together. I called Angelo, he had me ship it back along with the Said Canteen/ Canteen Cup combo, and they remade the holder to fit at no charge.... That's Customer Service. Bisongear , being made from wool is so quite to carry vs. the Nimrod Material.
I do not think you'd be unhappy with either, but I Think You'd be Happier with Bisongear. However, this is just one mans opinion , but I think I have plenty of backup here on that.

In reality both are good and very well made. Though I happen to have a Nimrod and can strongly recommend it friends on the other hand have Bison Gear packs and love them just as much. Both stand behind their products. Even though I have the other brand I know Ang is a good guy because I just bought a bow from him and we had a good conversation on the phone.
Best thing would be to study websites, reviews and better yet look at them in person if possible.
I have no idea about the Nimrod but Bison Gear is top notch stuff.
Bison Gear !!!!!! thier my list to get.
I have bison gear packs use them from hunting, camping, fishing,as a brief case for work, they hold up to everything, great product and great dude selling them!!
I just spent 8 days in the backcountry with my Bison Gear Lemhi and it worked great!! We went in with 4 days worth food and spike camp gear and then came back out after 4 days to get the remainder of our food. I did have Bison add straps so I could attach it to my Alaskan frame pack and that worked really well.
If I was to do it over I would have them add some more attachment points to the outside of the pack which i think i can still do if i send it back. As far as hauling the first load of meat out I can't tell you how it worked but I'm sure it would handle it just fine! Hope this helps.
