Title: Father & Son set
Post by: RGK on August 08, 2007, 10:10:00 PM
A guy in our archery club asked me to make a set of knives for him and his son. He asked that I have them done before the archery season opener. He gave me two shed antlers and asked that I make his for a left handed user and his son's for a right hander. I saved the brow tines for display bases. I still need to make the sheaths.

The blades are O1 steel heat treated and twice tempered to RC60

Ron -  That's about as nice as anything I've ever seen . . . totally outstanding.  That's also a great idea for a display stand. Really like the way you finished out the antler.

Those are beautiful, any father and son would be proud to carry something like that. My wife and I are expecting our first child any day now. And I cant wait for the lil fella to get here.

Your correct. Nessmuck inspired. A true Nessy would never have fancy file work but would rather be plain looking. I couldn't help myself.    :)

Chortdraw, I write on the bone very lightly with a hard leaded pencil and then use a fine tipped sharpie and then 4 coats of lacquer.

Great blade shape. Reminds me of the "Nessmuk" style.

I finished the sheaths for the Father and Son set. 8 Oz. Oak tanned leather with a medium brown dye.
