Well, Tony Z and I Drove home all night and got home safely. We had an awesome time, and met some really nice tradgangers. I hope all have a safe trip home. I'll post more pictures when I down load them.
Lets see some pics, Sean!!!!!!
Brad, you know how Sean is! :deadhorse:
Aww....I posted everything on "Getting Ready to Head To Maine", But I'll post them here and retell it all...I have noooo problem with that!
I was set up on the "Plane Crash" on Monday afternoon. It was pretty quiet till the sky opened up with a little bit of thunder. about a half hour after the rain stopped, I had about a 150 lb bear come in. He went back and forth to the bait for about 30 to 40 mins. He moved the barrel slightly so a bear would be at a slight 1/4 away shot.
He walked off. after sitting still for all that time, I had to stand to get some blood flowing back into my legs. as the light started to fade, I looked down and there was a pretty big bear standing under me. He walked to the barrel, then walked off. After about a minute or two, he came back and just laid down with his head in the barrel. The light faded so I couldnt pick out any definition on the bears body. I focused on an imaginary spot right in the middle, drew and released. I couldn't track may arrow but I heard "THWAK!" a bark and a growl, and watched the bear take off like a shot. The release felt good.
Now the shakes began. I shook foir ATLEAST 30 minutes. We found god blood on the arrow and blood pretty high on a few trees. I went back to camp, and Tony said he felt good and wanted to go look for it before the rain came in. We followed blood for about 60 yards when its just about stopped. After replaying it in my mind over and over, I started to doubt everything that had happend.
Tony decided to back out til morning. After not sleeping a wink all night while listinging to the down pour, I got out of bed and got some breakfest. We gathered just about everyone in camp and started out. We started a skirmish line at last blood, when Toby Essick yelled "Thar he is!" The bear wasnt 20 yards from where we stopped looking. I was over come with relief! I couldn't believe it.
The bear weighed in at 365 lbs and was taken with my Black Widow PCH 58" 57# @ 29", CE Heritage shafts tiped with a 125 grn Woodsman with a 125 grn adapter.
The cape measured 6 1/2 ft from nose to tail. Ill give the details on the head when it drys. It should measure over 19". Toby and Roger also put up a new Black Widow bow for biggest bear. I'll be putting my order in soon!!

Awww Buckster, thanks for your help pushing that Ole boy out of the woods! I think that its safe to say that we all had a great time.

Very nice!!! Youre on a roll!!! The new lodge looks nice!!!
Looks like a great time
It WAS an AWESOME hunt. The quality of which was only EXCEEDED by the quality of the hunters. Thanks Sean B. for setting the bar w/that exceptional boar and the magnanimity you demonstrated all week.
Thanks for the kind words Monk. The entire week was a pleasure. For me the bear was the iceing on the cake. To be honest, deep dpwn inside I was hoping for every one to take one the same size or bigger.
Everything is supposed to look BIGGER in a photo, but believe me Sean's bear was bigger than APPEARS in the photo."Man what a load!' It was a real treat for me just to be there and part of the recovery. Sean was really gracious allowing everyone to revel in his experience.
Any other stories from the week? Love to hear trad archery bear stories. If nothing else, how did the group do, overall?
Well Bill, I was hoping that guys would lurk and see this thread and chime in. three bears were takin that week, one with a rifle, and Roger Fulton took a boar just under 200 lbs. There were over 20 bears sighted with a few other shots taken. There were a few caught on video.
Com'on Oldskool...get your video on here!!
Thanks, Sean. Always interested in what's going on up North. We consider it almost like Home #2.
As soon as I can figure out how to I will post the video. Can't figure out how to get it out of my pictures
that didn't work
