YEARS AGO>..maybe 12-14...I had a sentman competition longbow that had an arrow drawn on the belly of the upper limb. The riser was maple in the longer section, a stripe of wenge (I think it was), and then bubinga on the shorter moon section (palm side of the grip). I really don't remember what the limb core was...but it was clear glass on both the back and the belly.
If anyone knows where that bow is today, I would like to find it.

Now that was one I shouldn't have sold. Describe yours. Maybe somoene will see it in this post.
Easy, my type I Bear A-Handle wood takedown. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.
My original green stripe Bear takedown I bought new from Lenny Cardinale in the '80s.

Mine was a lefty-66" and 62#(I think).....it had a riser of bubinga in the long section and wenge on the short section with black glass on the back and clear on the belly with black locust limb cores.
Good luck on your search...........
I still have mine and you're right it's a great bow.The carbon back is what made them the "competition " bow.
The bow I'd like back is my little Elburg Mite. Osage limbs under clear glass with a purple heart riser and tips,2 piece takedown.Sold it years ago, :knothead:
My 56" Blackwidow recurve made out of all Osage. Hind sight is 20-20 huh! Sweet shooting little bow
2Years ago I sold a 62@28 bush bow it was a late 80's bow what Jerry told me should have never sold her now she resides in Arkansas
Funny, I was thinking about this about 2 weeks ago. I had a cameleon Shrew Classic Hunter about 6 years ago that was absolutely stunning. I really didn't know what I was doing back then and order it with specs that didn't match me. I sold it and it felt like I was burying my dog when I was packaging it up! I regretting selling it until 2 weeks ago when my new Classic Hunter arrived. Equally as nice looking and the specs on this one fit me perfectly. I guess I can now forgive myself for selling that first Shrew.
Jim Johnson, Legend Longbow, 62" 50#@28". Sold it about 10 or 11 years ago and now I am regretting it.

Gary didn't put carbon on the exterior back...but covered it with black glass...but upon special request he would use carbon with a lamintion over it...and therefore use clear glass on those bows on both back and belly. Such bows ALSO had the "competition" name due to the use of carbon. I imagine I bought and sold about 50 of his bows over the years. He may not have done this for many, but I know he did such for us.
Additionally, with the various models that he had...he had "Competitor Deluxe," "Competition Deluxe," etc... and names changed over the years with different things meaning different things within the slightly different models.
Just some that I remember would be...
Competitor, Competitor deluxe (laminated riser I believe), Competition, Competition Deluxe, Carbon Competition, Chief, Moosejaw Elite, Mountain Bow, 5th Deminsion, Razorback, Rogue, Strike Force, Recon,...but I am sure there were others as well. I think he had one called "classic" but I can't swear to that...and he is currently making one called the Icon.
The bow I often wonder about was one that Sara drew an arrow on the belly. It was a plain, but very nice bow.
My father sold his RH Bear Alaskan with nice soft mint green fiberglass at a yardsale while I was away in the USAF back in the 80s. 45#
I'd love to find one in LH.
I'd rather have his back though.
Early 90s Bighorn. Brown Ramwood riser with black glass, 62" on a 17" riser.
Martin Hunter - Blonde Maple Riser, Black Glass, 70# - Boy could that bow launch an arrow. Sold it to somebody in Maryland.
A H.H. reverse handle locator grip Big Five, black glass. According to Craig it was built in the 70's. I got my first rabbit wit it.
Frank X.
The bow that I'd most like to have back is a Malibu Archery "Panther". It was a semi-recurve 40# bow that was made of all bamboo. I believe that it was only sold during a brief period of about 1953-1954. That little bow was lightweight and had very good cast. On the interior laminates it used edge grain and flat grain to maximize the performance. As an eleven year old that was my daily companion.

You are correct. I should have said "black glass AND carbon"
Here's a pic of the letter that came with Gary's brochure in '98. On the top he says" All my bows are made on the same basic form. Therefore I have one model only. The following are descriptions of the variations of that model."
My first recurve - it was/is a Black Widow MAV (pre phenolic and CNC), might of even been the first year the iron wood came out. My Dad bought it for me and he's no longer here. It's also the only bow I've even had my name put on, "William Meyer".
Man, I wouldn't give up my Sentman Moosejaw for anything in the world. What my children do with it after I'm gone doesn't matter, but for now it is going nowhere.
I had a Sentman for a short time years ago myself. Killed my only hog with it. I wish I had 4 back that come to mind.
Jim Johnson longbow, 64" and 56@28, cocobolo and red elm
Lonetree Longbow. 62" and 54@28 I think
Fredericks Longbow 62" 59@28
Green Mountain Longbow 66" 67@28 (first trad kill with it)
My Hoyt Buffalo would be the one I regret selling. Actually I did regret it for a month or so and got in touch with the buyer and told him if there was any interest in selling it I would love to have it back, It is on the rack with the others now! I know I could have just bought a new one since its just a newer production bow but I had that one for a year or so and it just shot great and gave me all the confidence in the world to shoot. Besides I didn't wanna be the guy starting a thread just like this regretting selling it so I quickly got it back. Just finished up shooting it a little bit getting ready for next Saturdays opener!!
I donated a Viper Delux to the troops in Iraq. 45 #'s, I shot it so good. Now that the war is winding down it will come home? One can hope...
-Jeremy :coffee:
Back in the early 70's I started my archery shooting with a fiberglass Ben Person. I also harvested my first deer with that bow. Wish I never gave it away.
Goshawkin,
Back then...in 98, Gary's "bread and butter" bow was the one bow that he was referring to when he said he made that one bow and one bow only...but prior then he made the competitor and also the mountain bow. Both came and went...depending upon request...but Gary had a strong desire to produce the one "ultimate bow." The reasons the others models kept coming and going was because the truth of it is...the "ultimate bow" depends upon one's selected task. Different people have different desires. For Gary's desires, his personal ultimate bow at that time was his Competition/Competitor series...so it lead the pack. These bows were almost identical and honestly, I don't recall there being any difference in the two. I will therefore consider them to be 1 design unless someone can clarify otherwise. Do you happen to recall any information on that? Despite that, in years to come his recon became one of his more popular models...but me personally, I wasn't a big fan of that model. Considering all the bows he ever made...I would say my 3 favorites were his competitor/competition series Sentman Longbow, his mountain bow series, and his moosejaw elite series. The Protege model we produce was modeled off his moosejaw elite series, but I would like to play with the Competitor/Competition series again for the true straight up longbow.
Even though he made many other models...including "Hill types" at various times...and some of the other series mentioned...they would come and go...and I wasn't a big fan of many of those other models. Although they were accurate, they weren't my personal cup of tea so to speak.
Yep,I'm aware Gary made other bows prior to the model I have. I posted the letter to show the different variations of that model. The first sentence of his brochure(dated nov.'98) reads,"12 years ago I set out to design the very best traditional bow" I put the brochure and letter in my gunsafe when I got them and still have them today. That '98 competition bow is one of the best longbows I've shot. If I wasn't so into "Hill" style bows right now,I'd probably buy one of Gary's Icons. He told me that they are better than the comp bows and guys who have shot them both told him the same.He was a very good guy to deal with when I bought the bow and it was everything he said it would be.Here's a pic of the brochure for you.

I sold a beautiful Robertson Longbow Pierce points in a Osage handle Juniper limbs with sheep horn tips. 60" 50#@27". I sold it on stickbow to a guy going bear hunting about 7 years ago has my name on it Steve Carpenter. I hope he reads this :)
so glad i dont have anything to post here yet
Sorry, none, I still have them.
Sometime arround 2000 . The ugliest Morrison I ever saw.. It was made of a funky orange paka wood. Her ame was Bow Derrick. It was My 3rd trad bow, 2nd Morrison and the one that made me stick with trad. the grip was perfect Boo under clear glass, no foam, no carbon, just 56" and 55lbs of "Yeah Baby" Lost it in Toledo Bend Lake while bow fishing. Bounced out on the ride in and never noticed it was gone unti at the landing. I've owned About 15 fine Morrison Creations since then, and still have one , but they aren't her.

56" #53 Browning Explorer I, Solid riser with green glass. Was one of my first recurves and my first Browning..... sold her on the bay couple of years ago. Never should of done that. I really didn't know what I had until she was gone.
A few years ago I sold a right handed 60", 60# Groves one piece....stupid, stupid, stupid! I shot that bow great and it was very smooth, fast, quiet and well...you know...fit me like a glove. Would love to have it back.
none actually, I have enjoyed all the bows I have owned but once I started shooting & building selfbows I found I liked them better & actually shot more consistently. Mike
I had sold my Quinn Longhorn Classic T/D Recurve to a fella in Alabama about 3 years ago. Really hated selling it...
Then 2 years ago I was on the big auction site and came across a Longhorn that looked a lot like my old one. I ended up buying it from the guy who lived in New York.
When it arrived I could not believe my eyes that it was my old bow I had sold a year before. It had a mark I had put on it and some writing on one of the limbs.
Killed two deer with it that year I got it back and plan on killing more this year with it. I also plan on being buried with it.... :)
LH Black Widow MAIII that I sold to a genetleman in southern Iowa.

Jim Brakenbury "Old Thimer" only bow I truly wish I had never sold. Actually traded for some blackpowder equipment. If you know where it is at Jeff let me know. Lol

Like to have my MAB all black, Black Widow take-down recurve back. I had two sets of limbs for it. One set made it a 56"or 58" and the other set made it a 62" I believe. I can't even remember the draw weight but I do know that it was more poundage than I needed. I traded a S&W model 66, .357 Magnum for it and one set of limbs with Jerry Napier at one of the UBK banquets back in the mid '90s. I then later traded a Ruger 10/22 rifle for the extra set of limbs with the same guy but this time I drove 80 miles to his house to make the trade. I shot that bow very well and was able to harvest my first two trad whitetails with it in the late '90s, a doe, and then one week later, a buck. I also killed my first carp with it as well and won a few 3D shoots with that bow too. Two years later, I sold all of it online. :knothead:
56" Meland Pronghorn, 50#@28". I sold that bow to BarbJD, who has since passed away. My name was on it, Gene Mullane. If you know where it is, please let me know.
Sold this baby three times, cant even figure out why. Its back home and here to stay. (http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o244/2crazyboys_photos/DSCN0951.jpg)
I do not regret selling any,got me into what I have now and none of them will be going anywhere.
Mine is broke, first selfbow I ever made.Killed bear and deer with it.
Posted looking for this bow in the classifieds a year or so ago with no luck.
Morrison Shawnee 58" 55# @ 28" Osage and Bocote riser (double pine cone) with Arapahoe (recurve) limbs Copperhead skins and Kudu horn tips. It has my name on it.
I would really like to get this one back..... :help:
I had a Fox longbow made by Ron King,57#, yew limbs that I really wish I had back!!
I want these both back in the worst way.

Bob Lee Dark Archer 54" 54#. Should have never sold it...
David (Yornoc)
Dave makes those every day ;)
Jim Brakenbury "Old Thimer" only bow I truly wish I had never sold. Actually traded for some blackpowder equipment. If you know where it is at Jeff let me know. Lol
Never sold it but somehow it dissappeared, my first bow, a 30# Ben Pearson lemonwood longbow my parents gave me for Christmas in 1955.
I would love to have my original Rocky Mountain Recurve with its extra set of limbs. This bow was stolen from me along with a lot of other archery gear including several other bows. I'd also like to find the SOB who burglarized my home and took my stuff. (Forgive my French please!)
Black widow PGA lefty 60@27 went to Austria.. I would buy that one back in a heart beat !! I was a DA to ever sell it...it was a anniversary present from the wife.. nuf said....
I have three bows I would love to have back:
Noble Longbow....flat grain red elm under clear glass....shedua and bubinga riser if I remember right with a slightly dished grip. Would either have writing on it for "shorthair" or "Ron Herman"....cant remember what I had him put on it.
John Strunk, Buffalo Spirit osage longbow with buffalo horn tips, snake skin backing. I won it at Traditional Bowhunters of Maryland banquet one year in mid-90s....no name on bow as it was refinished. Here is pic with nutria I shot during TBM hunt that following year
(http://***********.bowsite.com/tf/pics/00small36159387.JPG)
Joe Mattingly, "DOGLEG", osage selfbow I sold at auction to raise money for his brain cancer fighting fund years ago...it was a great shooter.
I have bought back the only other bow I wanted...was my first recurve as adult...Jeffery Royal Hunter with Red Oak under clear glass and his mountain camo riser. Bought it back and it is staying on rack from now on.
Good luck Lee with finding that first bow....
I had a black widow PMA Autumn Oak it was 58 inches 49 lbs tillered 3 under.Shot my first deer using traditional equipment with this bow.I sold it and still am kicking myself for it.This was 4 or 5 years ago ,if anyone has it I would love to buy it back.

X2 It's been part of the journey for me as well. All the bowyers I have been fortunate enough to own bows from are still making bows, thus if I wanted a replacement bad enough it could be contemplated.
A few that I've owned that left fond memories...Well, a Thunderhorn Heartstopper and Toelke Lynx come to mind.
~CB
BW psax cross grain gray bark. Has my name on it. Also a BW PL II think it was 53 at 28, bought it, sold it, bought it again sold it again DA me.
My first Howard Hill. 68" 56@28, Wesley. Ebony riser, black glass, with buffalo horn tip overlays, and a black laced wrap. Hard hitter, but at the time was a little too heavy at my long draw. Shouldn't have traded that one.
Roger Hollenbeck all-wood longbow. If I remember it was 64" and around 50#@26" or so. I think he called it a laminated selfbow. It was bamboo backed with maybe 5 or 6 lams of Osage. That bow was scary quiet and a joy to carry.........IJ
I have been very lucky to have sold or traded up most times so came out with something I really liked. The only bow that was different was a Black Widow SBS [short black stick] 60" 44# @ 29". I wanted something heavier and sold it. Now that's right where my specs are.....lol! That was a real sweetheart!!
My 3rd and 4th FOX High Sierras would be bought back if either presented themselves for sale.
Both were figured cocobolo with Yew limbs.
Mann!
I'd dearly love to have my 2 piece Thunderhorn Heartstopper takedown longbow back. Don't even remember whom I sold it too or I'd contact them but if you have it-has my name on it, stippled grip, 50# @ 29" I would like to have it back.
This is the only picture I have of it. Has antler overlays and limb tips.

My 62" PSAX that Flatshooter has it is very special to me and someday hope to get it back. I even offered to have him order whatever bow he wanted to trade it back. So if you read this the offer still stands and always will!! :banghead:

Ed that is one pretty Widow for sure. I almost bought it and would have if I hadn't had one on order. Hope it works out for you.
I may be getting one of mine back if I can scrape up some money.
Centaur Double Carbon, Cocobolo riser with a stippled grip, 58" 48@28. Traded it off during a weak moment in a quest for a Kwyk Styk.
Mine would be a Martin Super Diablo I bought new back in about 1993.
Zebra Wood...60" and 60@28".
Not only was it a sweet shooter but it was LUCKY!
Things happened when I was carrying that bow while deer hunting that you just wouldn`t believe.
I have absolutely no idea why I would even THINK of selling that bow.
LH Palmer Classic, 50# @ 28. It was the grey and brown one with the laser engraved deer and my name under it. I got it when I first hurt my shoulder and killed my best buck with it in Iowa. I don't even remember why I sold it. I have been looking for it for years.
D.P.
I've bought and sold a bunch f them, but for me the one I regret was a mid 80's Bighorn recurve.
It was the cheaper Colorado model, and the original limbs broke and were replaced with some from a custom Bighorn, so they don't match and should be easy to identify. I think it was 64" and about 50@30".
My Black Creek Siren. It literally shot where I looked. Arghh!
(http://s346.photobucket.com/albums/p440/kahunter_photos/Siren%20pics/?action=view¤t=P1040351.jpg&newest=1#!oZZ5QQcurrentZZhttp%3A%2F%2Fs346.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp440%2Fkahunter_photos%2FSiren%2520pics%2F%3Faction%3Dview%26current%3DP1040352.jpg%26newest%3D1)
My dad had a Bear Takedown in camo the first year they were made(included the built-in sights). He traded it for a compound in Springfield,OH. I would pay serious money to get that one back.
My Robertson Stykbow Purist Longbow. 62" 55# @ 26. Bolivian Rosewood riser. It has my name on it Chris Fannin. I traded it to Bison Gear. If you bought it please let me know. I'll buy it back if you ever want to sell it. I killed my Alaskan black bear with it.
I've sold a lot of them but two stick out that I would like back, A LH 2pc Caribow featherhorn by Abe and A MOAB that I know is collecting dust on Pat's rack! LOL
maybe someday
I had a 60" Groves take down that was 60#, RH, that I sold a few years ago. It was one of the smoothest, most accurate bows I ever owned (until I got a DAS). Would love to find it. It had brown glass.
Willderness longbow made by Neil Russell ,66 inch Lefty bow...man do I wish I had it back!!!! mark chambers ...Neil was is a great guy too
Take down MOAB. :banghead:
62" Firefly low grip Route 66 with black limbs.
Never have seen those two show up again for sale.
I am also kind of starting to miss my Hill Country Wildcat.
62" 65@28 great northern critter gitter red elm limbs with cocbolo handle I think. I cant remeber but I sold or traded it 2 years ago
I sold or traded many that I later regretted but the one I'd really love to see again was a RH 60" Bighorn Takedown 70#@28 Stolen out of my car in my driveway in Toms River N.J. back in 86 or 87 along with a plastic tub with all of my clothes in it. I wouldn't be able to shoot it anymore but I'd like to ask it where the heck have you been? I loved that bow.
Silver Tip. 60 inch, 54@28. Smooth as butter. I just wasn't thinking!
My Massie longhorn.
My Widow 58" PA II 63@28. I shot my first trad deer with it and then went and lost my mind

A Custom Bighorn TD that I won in a raffle back in the mid 80's. It was my first custom bow and the bow that made me decide to go Trad for good. Sold it around 1990 to fund another bow that I just "had to have". Tracked it down last summer and bought it back. Not leaving again.
a Wallace Mountain Longbow with the inscription custom made for Shawnee Arrows
A 44#,'68 Super Kodiak. Shot my first deer with that bow in 1968. A few years later I thought it would be a good idea to trade it in on a 55# Super Diablo. Wish I could re-think that one !
I have 2 that I would love to get back.
#1 is a Massie Longhorn from Tippit in Bocote and Osage 64" and 50# @ 28"
#2 is a Thunderhorn 3 piece in all Bocote I sold to Chromebuck a year or so ago.
I have two....my first trad bow was a Don Dow r/d bow that I wish I still had.
I also had a Bob Lee hunter that I really liked that I thought I was 'upgrading' to a Hoyt Buffalo.
I like the buffalo enough, but the Bob Lee was much lighter.
I would like my BW PLV T/D back ... 64" and I think 52# .... said Ravensgait on it I believe. Traded it in a moment of stupidity :banghead:
A custom 1980's Bighorn TD. It was my first custom bow and I think of it often.
Only one I csn think of is a mint 65 Kodiak. Only because of what it is. Oh and a mint 60 Kodiak Mag. Only because of what it is.
As a bow to be a go to shooter. I am building that one in my head right now. So much fun.
God bless you all, Steve
Keith Anyan built Hill style longbow. 60" 62#@28
65# Howatt Hunter Recurve.
I haven't been rid of any I've sold or traded long enough to want them back badly enough to buy them again.
There a couple that I miss:
1. Fox High Sierra - the first recurve I bought since the early 1970's and the first one I traded or sold away (I can't remember the deal exactly).
2. Snakebit. I imagine this will forever be the most beautiful bow I've owned.
Just got a riser back I regretted selling. :campfire:
The only bow that I really regret getting rid of and really want back. Is a Northwind Gem reverse handle longbow. This was my first short (60"ntn)bow. It was Osage under clear glass with a cocobolo riser. 51lbs @ 27". That bow was lightest bow I ever owned. I traded it on here for a snakey osage self bow about 6 years ago.
Did I say "I really want it back!"
I'd like to see this one again, Robertson, 66" 60@29" Cocobolla riser, boo limbs with Yew veneers.
