Title: What's Your Thoughts on the Predator Bows Aluminum Riser??
Post by: Nala on September 02, 2012, 02:00:00 AM
Hey all,

I find myself checking out every thread that I see posted that mentions the Predator Recurve bows.  I really like the looks of them and from what I have read they have quite a following of those that love their recurves and swear by their performance.

I occasionally go to their site and nose around too, as I do for a lot of bowyers, just to check out their wares if you will.  On my last visit to the Predator site I seen a new riser, a machined aluminum riser.  I don't think I have read a review of this new bow.  I don't know how long it's been out, but I know it's NOT brand new.

I thought it looked great.  It's called the Velocity.  It isn't an ILF riser as far as I can tell.

I have thought that one day I'll try to pick up a Predator recurve.  Now I don't know if I would switch that to one of the Velocity risers or stay with their risers that they have made all along.

I'd like to know what you all think about these new Predator risers and bows.  Does anyone have one or has test shot one that can post their comments and thoughts about it?  I'd like to read a review, if there is one.

If given the choice would you rather have a new Velocity riser recurve or would you stay with their CLASSIC riser on their recurves?

Here is their site for you to check out:

Sorry if I am breaking any rules by posting a link to a Bowyer.  If I am, please delete this link.

Thank all.

I own three wood riser Predator bows. As I have read it, you can increase the limb weight up to four lbs using the metal riser, you can also shoot off a rest, using a plunger, stabilizer etc.. I have no interest in this and prefer the wood. I am sure it was a way to get into the metal riser without making their limbs obsolete. This is a personal  choice and if a metal "floats you boat" have at it. It might be lighter weight as well.

At one time, I would not look at a metal riser, wa s wood snob. Now all my go to bows are metal risers, Quinns, ILf, and Warfs, old compound risers I have remachined into using recurve limbs. You will have no problem with metal risers, wrap the rip in rubber for cold weather and you are good to go.

I think it's a good looking riser, but I'm not sure it's good looking enough to get me to want one more than their Classic risers.  They make some really pretty bows.

Rraming, how about some pics of your stable?  I'd like to see those.

Did they raise their prices on their recurves lately?  Last night I was looking at their inventory and the nicer risers are $425 or so, sometimes less and a set of limbs are the same.  I didn't remember the prices for a complete bow being that high.  Maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

Nala, I emailed a you the photo, I can only post at work, use an iPad at home, you can post it if you want to
I do believe the prices went up a little, complete bow with front veneers and classic riser is around 800 now, a few years ago I believe it was 100 or so less. Everything goes up, a few years ago a woodchuck taper tool was 125 and now is 175, better get while the getting is good-ha!

My son has the metal riser (and the Classic). It is FANTASTIC!  The grip is very nice, bow is well balanced, and the posts above about a 4# draw weight range are right on. My son's limbs for his classic are 52#@28". They are 50-54# on the metal riser depending upon where you are in the setting.

I am waiting on the LH version.  I have the Anniversary wooden model and will simply put the limbs from that one on the metal riser.  Last I heard (in late July) there had been a delay in production of the LH version due to machining changes.
