I was shooting my old longbow this morning before leaving for work. Last session with it was a good one. Accuracy was "on" with my normal grouping.
I strung it up today and was hitting consistently right. I'm a lefty. Trying to focus on release I still got a rather consistent right hit. I began to adjust my bowarm position to get the hits to move left, wondering why I was having such trouble. It felt "off" to be holding my bow arm purposely left to move the hits left.
The the lightbulb....brace....
I twisted two twists up on the string and then I was back to spot on. Arrows were now vertical centerline.
I find I can get frustrated easily if I get "off" more than my usual moderate accuracy. I am certainly no Howard Hill, but I feel I'm more accurate than not. I'll never be an aspirin shooter I'm afraid, but strive to be.
Just passing this along to those who share my frustration to not ingore the little things.
But like all the wise veteran shooters say, "Make one adjustment at a time."
Bud B, Good post, I just had the same trouble last week- first I started blaming my form but that wasn't the issue, I was getting really frustrated(mad as H%$l more like it) I went in and poured a cup of java and calmed myself, then went to checking the brace ht, sure enough she was off and a couple twists I was back in the game again!!! Note to self- Always check equipt when shooting is off first!!
I'll add the madder I got and the more my focus went to form the worst I shot!!!!!!
When you have your brace height set right, put one of your hunting arrows on the string and mark the arrow with a sharpie behind the shelf so you can always do a quick check when heading out to the woods. If you are useing a B50 string you have to check it a good bit.
