I had a camera on a water hole one time where there wasn't anything but scrub brush.  The highest I could hang my camera was about 2 foot off the ground.  The second night it was there, a 200#+ boar hog rubbed the bush it was hanging on and smeared my 2 month old camera all over it.  It was a 5mp tasco made by bushnell and apparently "hog damage" isn't covered in the warranty.

It's impossible to hide anything from a bear. The worst for messing with things are the youngsters though I've had an old boar mess with my stuff a couple times.

Bears destroyed $800 worth of cameras for me before I started using steel lock boxes.I'm not interested in locking up the camera-just wanting to keep bears from crunching them or knocking them out of place. So far, after two years of using the boxes, not one single issue. Not one damaged camera and not one pulled out of place.A $200 camera doesn't do much good if it is pointed at the ground for a week.

Anytime I buy a camera now,a lock box comes with it.

I ordered a camera from one place and had to order the protective box from another place.

The camera came in first so I discretely set it up.

When I got the box I went to where my camera was installed and a bear had already tore it off the tree (breaking the loops for the strap in the process), and crunched into it. I sent it off and should have news soon if it's worth fixing it.

Talk about bad luck. I have friends who have multiple cameras set up for months without a protective box, and they never had a problem.

I guess I have a knack for finding game, LOL!
